Tire recommendations for my tow vehicle.

I'm in the market for new tires for my 2008 Yukon XL Denali. Would like to get a few opinions on a good set of rubbers that have limit sidewall flex but aren't abusive to passengers when the truck is unhitched. I've been reading about Michelin LTX M/S2 (load and speed is 113H). They are more expensive than I'd like but seem to have great ratings.

On the lower end, I've seen good reviews of Cooper Discoverer H/T plus. The load rating is higher on these at 117; speed is only T. Other tires I've been looking at at BFG Long Trail T/A Tours, Michelin Defender LTX M/S (113T), and an A/T tire, Cooper Discoverer A/TW.

Just wondering if it's worth going with an aggressive tread pattern tire A/TW. The primary use of the Yukon will be towing a pull behind. A minivan is our grocery getter.

Check out Toyo tires. We run Toyos on all of our vehicles. Great tires, cost less than Michelin and have no problems with traction in any weather.

General Grabber ATS. Excellent ear and good ride. I would suggest going with an LT tire in a "C" load rating.

I put a set of these on the wife's 2008 Tahoe, I really liked them. Excellent handling and a very quite tire. I didn't do much towing with the tire. Got them at Costco for 900 and change but this was 4 or 5 years ago.

I have been researching tires as well and have found many people happy with Cooper tires for the money and American made. I like the All Terrain tire only because it looks cool.

I haven't ever owned a set of Michelin's that I haven't been happy with.

How often do you drive your Yukon XL over 118 MPH and what kind of weight are you looking at towing/hauling?

Unless you live in snow or mud country and drive off road a lot, there's no reason to go with an aggressive tread. I stay with Michelins. Every time I've strayed in the past I've been disappointed. I can't say I noticed any difference when I changed from P-rated to E-rated tires.

I'm about to put Michelin LTX Defender M/S tires on my F350 dually (actually already have the fronts). I believe the Defender series is replacing the M/S2 series.

I've run nothing but Michelin tires for about 45 years. I will not run anything else.

If you live somewhere that gets a lot of snow and the Yukon will be driven in it, you may want to consider a tire that works better (something with a snowflake on the sidewall). If only used for towing, or you see little snow, then I would get the Defenders (an all-season tire).

BFG's LT's also.

I was happy with the LTX/MS2s on my 2500 Suburban. They handled the load well. I would run them at about 45 lbs (per inflation tables) when unloaded and the ride was fine.

Good luck,

I've always been happy with the BFG's, although I've usually run the rugged trails. Decent, quiet ride, lots of miles.
