Toilet Paper

I have a question about "RV" toilet paper. Is it really necessary to use RV approved toilet paper in my truck camper? Do you guys use it or do you just use the same toilet paper that you use at home? I'v never owned an RV before so I don't know if this is necessary. I can't imagine it is much different that the Scott 1000 that I use at home. What do you use?

I second the advice about using more water before dumping your tanks. Found it helps a lot.

I did the two jar test and proved it to myself. Regular TP worked just like the RV stuff.

I had to quit taking Costco paper in the RV as they started making their rolls bigger and they would not fit in the holder! So we buy it at a dollar store now for the RV.

A lot depends on your method of dumping. If you have a macerator, which we do, any single ply will work. It is important that the tissue dissolve or it can get caught in the blades during the dump cycle...IMHO, even if you dump with the stinky slinky, I would use tissue that dissolves quickly as Charmin or Northern etc. may get hung up on the sides of your tank and create a real mess getting it "unstuck"...then again, I've never really done a close inspection of the inside of my black tanks...ever....:W......Dennis

good grief, a paper sack to put used TP in. that is so gross. where do you think you are ? living in Mexico? that's what they do down there but here in the states we have much better sewer systems. a tank on a RV is a holding tank, you do not need to worry about whether the paper dissolves or not. Just that it doesn't break down in your hand when you are using it. it's as simple as that, the rv tp is thinner than northern or some of the other stick house paper but who cares. use a fair amount of water and dump when you are 3/4 full and call it good.

The problem isn't usually the type of TP, it is the person using it. Some people just feel a need to use ALOT of toilet paper - small children are typically guilty of this. A friend's child used about a quarter of a regular roll each time she visited the bathroom.

That's definitely us since this is our first RV. Unless tents and Jeeps count. :B

The secret is the dumping of the black tank. When you are ready to dump,they are almost never full.
FILL IT TO THE BOTTOM OF THE TOILET with water,dump, repeat. Even wipes will flush out if you do this.(not recommended). Any full timer will tell you this works. It's the salesmen and hesitant weekend campers that say use this or that.

The TC tank is a holding tank, not intended to process waste. I use the same TP I use at home, never a problem. If you are concerned, put a couple of sheets of your TP in a glass of water. Hold your hand over the top. If it dissolves, it certainly will dissolve in your holding tank.

If you have a concern about the type, place a sheet or two in a glass of water and shake it up, it should break up and start to dissolve if its septic safe.

I use the same stuff in the RV as I use in the house.

The special "RV" TP is just another way for companies to try and get more money from consumers. Oh, and the RV stuff is pretty scratchy on the back side!

We use the same in Trailer as we do at home. Lots of water going in also. Never a problem in 6 different trailers.
