Top 5 Options

I'm new here. My wife and I are looking to buy our first trailer (likely buying new). We have narrowed down the floorplan, length, and major features that we want. However, one of the things I'm trying to figure out is what are the top 5 options I should make sure to have (like wired for solar, dual batteries, etc.).

I've searched for articles and forums but can't seem to find anything. I would appreciate your opinions.

1. Slide out toppers

2. Power tongue jack I feel this one is the best of the bunch. Have had one for the past 20 years.

3. Good, strong, reliable chock like Bal X Chocks

4. Vent covers and/or MaxxAir vent fan

5. A decent sewer hose system rather than the cheap junk supplied with the trailer by most dealers.

Also make sure you have a jack that will fit under the trailers spring axle mounting location, and a lug nut wrench that will fit your trailers axle lug nuts.

Not in order.

Furnace as far from bedroom as possible.

Large battery area with for 6 volts if boondocking much. Hold four 6s.

Large tanks.

One dump outlet.

Curved roof, not flat.

Thick floor wood, not sandwich foam.

Don't worry about solar pre wire. Good chance you would want heavier wire.

Heavy frame style. Some are welded sections. Search frame issues.

Wet bolts.

Ease of use with slides in.

Light switches. Not having to reach to the fixture.

Television space. Sure a 19" will work but sometimes you like a 40 or more.

Furniture comfort . How long could you really sit on the couch or dinette.

Window blinds. Regular old blinds are surprising cheap easy and effective.

How easy would it be to remove the carpet and install other material.

Where is the fridge located. If you wanted to install a resi is there room for door swing and possibly hog out the cabinet.

Refrigerator venting for propane fridge, in slide?

No one asked yet, do you have enough tow vehicle to pull the TT you are considering?

Top 5 options that I find very useful.
1. Rear ladder
2. Power tongue jack
3. Load E 15 inch wheels
4. Maxxair vent covers
5. Outside kitchen

We also find pull down type shades to be more durable than venetian blinds.

Most factory solar wiring options are bearly adequate if adequate at all. Do you own solar wiring.

Dual battery option depends on price, battery brand, battery “freshness” and amp hour rating.

Power tongue jack. I would not have a trailer without one.

Vent fan upgrade. The basic factory fans are a joke. Go with a Maxxair or Fantastic Fan. Vent covers are nice too.

If you will be camping frequently in hot climates, get the largest AC unit they offer.

An enclosed underbelly offers fewer entry points for mice and other vermin.

A rear view camera might be helpful if you are inexperienced backing a trailer.

I read the OP's request as asking about options one might consider adding to a trailer, not features to look for when selecting a trailer ...

Sorry, TMI, but here goes. My number one concern was a bathroom size and layout I could actually use. I'm a big guy and it had to be big enough for me to be able to sit without having my knees forced together and sit with my arms crossed. I wanted to be able to reach to wipe my butt, not scrunch my face into a wall when I bent over to wipe or contorting myself and falling face first into the floor when trying to wipe. My older trailer required me to step one foot into the tub when wiping. Some trailer I looked at I would look at some of the amenities and features, but every trailer I entered I would go straight to the toilet, close the door and sit on the throne. Many I walked straight out of and on to the next one after only checking out the bathroom.

The second was a big enough shower to stand upright in and not feel like the walls were going to close in on me and I could actually bend my knees to reach and wash my feet.

Third was waste and FW tank sizes.

Fourth it had to sleep 4 without using the dinette.

Fifth was cabinet storage space.

Without knowing what you are considering, it's impossible to help you. For us, it's adequate counter space, an oven, storage in every possible spot, a toilet you can sit on and use to wipe your butt, and good insulation (double pane windows)
