Torklift Superhitch

I have my 2000 Jeep Cherokee set up for towing behind the camper. This worked well, with no extension required, with the Northstar 8.5 Arrow. My AF990 extends somewhat further back requiring a different approach.

After looking at lots of alternatives for extending the tow bar attach point I have decided to just go ahead and buy the Torklift Superhitch Original with a 3 foot SuperTruss. This will also require me to replace the rear Torklift tiedowns with a different part number.

Install looks relatively straightforward but will require me to remove the current tiedowns and relocate the Hellwig sway bar brackets. The new hitch will install under the existing factory hitch.

Any comments, suggestions, or pointers before I jump into this project?

Great, thanks guys. I think it's a 33 under there and it's real tight on the 4 inch exhaust, but still have an inch or so to the factory hitch.

Tires are 35s though, wish a 35 would fit though...

Speaking of spares and Superhitches, I have larger than stock tires, anyone having spare tire fitment issues with a Ford? Mines an 01. Thanks!

usefull tip. I wind the electrical cord around the side chain a few times before plugging it into the truck plug to keep it safely up and out of the way. At the last horse show I was at someone got their hitch extension stolen, always use a locking hitch pin on the top bar of the superhitch at the truck and one on the ball reciever end.

Yeah its a big hitch.

Will you need WDH for anything? Or is 650/6500 enough?

At this point I don't anticipate needing a WDH.

Are you flat towing or using a trailer/dolly?

The Jeep Cherokee is flat towed. I have also towed several trailers previously with the shorter Northstar camper. I also have a boat and may want to tow trailers in the future. With the SuperHitch I will not be restricted.

I looked at several alternatives to the SuperHitch as explained in an earlier post and decided for piece of mind to go with the Torklift solution.

By the way all the items came today. Kudos to Tweety's. The hitch is massive, 100 lbs +/-. The 3 ft Supertruss is about 70 lbs.

The SuperHitch/SuperTruss set up, while heavy, is a real beast and provides peace of mind, confidence and a skinny wallet.

I can believe that, said well over 60 lbs, maybe I shud have said just under 100:) Glad those days of squatting under the 3.5' camper overhang while trying to slip the truss in are over. When new it slipped right in but after a couple New England winters the corrosion in the hitch makes everything a PIA. My tow beast is shorter and a ton lighter, being only 28" or so I can put it on first then back under camper. Because of angle truck came in at I cud back under old camper with 4' truss but loaded cud not pull out without burying the end of the truss into the driveway. Still have a hole from the first time I tried, took a lot of time and ingenuity to get truck out of that predicament

My SuperTruss is shorter but I got used to leaving it on when dropping the TC at camp. Backing under was never an issue, but I did get stares with the naked truss suspending my mud flaps.

I had the Superhitch with 48" extension on my last rig which was on a 2001 Silverado 3500 DRW Duramax CC (long truck) with a 2003 Arctic Fox 1150 Dry Bath. Big load and extending 48" I wouldn't going with anything other than the SuperHitch but it's a heavy beast. That truss must have weighed well over 60lbs and since I loaded my TC on an angle at my house I couldn't put the truss on until after loaded and pulled onto driveway. Better have a strong back and core if you have a similar situation. My current rig I only extend 24" so have the Tow beast and it's a ton easier/lighter and plenty capable at this length.

Best of luck, both great products.

Well your committed now but flat towing a vehicle puts close to zero pounds of tongue weight on the hitch so a Superhitch isn't really needed. The 2-1/2" tow beast style of extention works fine in that application and is much cheaper.
