Torklift Talons - New Video

Well the new truck got it's talons installed. This is definitely not a how to video so if you have any general questions, please feel free to ask. The Talons are a step above the steel mounts and for those of you that are close to your max truck weight limits, might want to think about the Talons for some weight reductions. I will have to find out how much the steel mounts weigh vs the Aluminum.

Nice job. You weren't kidding when you said new truck, were you? That undercarriage is so clean it looked like you installed those on the dealer's lot before driving it home. ๐Ÿ™‚

Well this is a Talon on my rig. It has been there for two years. I have driven in snow, dirt, mud, you name it. I see no corrosion or pitting of the aluminum.

I think that the weight reduction comment is a little far fetched as it is not anywhere near a significant difference and won't make or break the weight police violations. It's like tripping over $50 of quarters to pick up a $5 bill. I'd put some clearcoat (or paint) on them if they aren't already.
My built Jeep is covered in aluminum armor but I didn't dare put it on bare.

Not sure I consider aluminum 'armor' unless the T Number is is double digits.

6061-T6 makes fine armor. My belly plate is made of it on Ultra4 chase rig. Bumpers, corners, it works fine.

It's nothing to do with weight police, but like saying I take my plastic coffee cups in the car in the morning instead of the steel tumbler. Yes, it saves weight, will it matter? No.

I should have not brought up the weight difference, I forgot about all the weight police roaming around. They definitely are not going to make a huge difference in weight reduction but any little bit helps.

Can't wait to see what they look like after a year of being on the truck and going into the mountains.

YouTube music is rather limited. You take what you can use for free...

Nice video (sort of). It's not that easy but showmanship is everything.

Couple comments...

Most importantly, while aluminum is lighter and loos 'pretty' when new and coated, not everyone lives in sunny California and if you live (and haul a TC) where road crews apply sodium chloride or CACL or Brine solution to the roads in the winter, aluminum is not a good alternative because once the coating gets chipped (and it will), electrolysis starts and never quits.

So yes, they are nice but they will corrode and get ugly (just like polished aluminum rims do once the clearcoat is compromised.

My steel torklift are pretty light, so don't expect much lb shaved.
My aluminium tailgate is huge difference from steel one on older truck.
Now I can carry it with 1 hand.
In total, aluminium truck saved hundreds lb of weight.

How much weight does it drop? Can't be much, the steel ones aren't all that heavy.

Will find out, as I am just as curious as you are. Having both in hand, I can tell you it is very noticeable
