Towing speed?

I'm wondering what speed most folks shoot for when towing a travel trailer? Highway towing on the flats that is.

yep, I am somewhat amused by folks who justify speeding by not wanting to "get their doors blown off". My doors are still intact after 20 years.

I usually tow on the highway right around 55-60 mph and take my time. Keep my tires within their speed rating also. I'm running power king load range D 15". So far over 3 yrs and no issues. They are overkill for my trailer weight, but i like the extra margin.

The speed limit which is between 55 to 80 depending on which state I'm in. On average most states I tow in are 70 or 75 MPH.

Usually 60/65 that was in heat of summer. Leaving in the next couple of days in cooler weather and may go 65 or almost 70. I feel my tires when I stop for fuel to how warm they feel. Not scientific but you get a feel. Main thing is maintaining proper air pressure

Yea, I can't find any specific laws in either state, but even websites like AAA don't seem to support this theory...

I had the Radial Trail RH for the last 2 years I had my old trailer. I really liked them. I got load range D tires that were WAY overkill for my weight needs. Camper felt very steady rolling down the road and also seemed to feel more stable parked too... not sure if it was pyschosomatic or if the stiffer tires didn't allow as much bounce.

The HD's are supposed to be an improvement upon the very good RH design.

I hope you like them, when I replace the tires on my new trailer, I have every intention of getting Radial Trail HD's. I like that they have load range E in 15" sizes too. I am a huge believer in having more tire capacity than you will ever need.

Which for my 4.6, is 70-ish on the flats.

My tires are rated for 81 MPH.

Hopefully these Carlisle Radial Trail HD's will do the job. They are not squishy like the old ones.

63-68mph for us or posted speed if appropriate.I give myself plenty of room between us and the cars in front. I had to do a quick stop last summer when a car switched lanes quickly then applied its brakes. I was glad to have the bigger brakes that come on my 2500 HD.
