Trailer Weight

Evening ...I have a stupid question about figuring our TT weight. Our Cougar has a GCWR of 9450 lbs. Weighted loaded for travel, the axle weight was 7600 (truck scales) and the tongue weight (my Sherline tongue scale) is 920 lbs. Now is my trailer weight 7600 lbs (axles only) or is it 8520 lbs (Tongue & axles weights together)? :h

Thanks

I believe the correct answer is :

the OP has not given enough information to answer the question.

the unknown is does the OP have a WD hitch? and if so, were the spring bars hooked up when the axle was weighed?

If the answer is no WD hitch or no spring bars hooked up, then the actual trailer weight is the sum of the tongue + axles +/- scale resolution for each weight +/- scale accuracy. (likely somewhere between 25 and 100lbs scale resolution)

If the answer is "I had the spring bars hooked up" THEN the unhooked trailer axle weight will be lower than the scale weight because it includes the weight transferred from the TV rear axle. So the real trailer weight is less than the sum of tongue + axle.

the axle LOAD in either case is the weight shonw on the scale, so the axle must be rated for at least that amount.

The resolution on most truck scales is in 100 pound increments.

We have a scale that is 40' long by us. I weighed the tongue, then pulled on and weighted just the axles. Then backed up and put the whole trailer on and it was like 100 pounds difference, all the trailer weighed more....not sure why. Its not a scale that is for public use, the scale is for a trucking company that weighs dump trucks, etc.

Every pound counts whether it's on the tongue or the axles.
