Who are you guys going through for travel trailer insurance? What should I expect to pay with a clean driving record, $1000 deductibles and roadside assistance for a new paid $~33k trailer? 20 days a year of use, 3500 miles or so.

I found quotes from Progressive and Good Sam to be similar at $350/yr.

I most concerned with ensuring a blowout caused damage is insured, delams or water damage from faulty valves. That kind of thing, stuff that would cause major damage.

What has been your experience with TT insurers? I have USAA for my cars now. Their website points me to Progressive.

No government required liability insurance in the US. That is covered by your tow vehicles insurance. You really don't need insurance on your TT at all. Of course if something happens to it then it's your loss.

We have insurance from Aviva Elite Co. (plus the basic government required liability insurance). Not sure if Elite has a related company in the US. They have the best policy available in Canada and we have their Deluxe Coverage option with a disappearing deductible and also a mature market discount.

We're covered for guaranteed full replacement cost with a new unit of similar kind and quality and some other things like emergency vacation expense and an extra one year's warranty on any appliance installed by our TT manufacturer.

Just received a hike in my bill. After a lot of chatter and no good answers with Hartford I asked if it had anything to do with my age (75). I have had no claims in years. She told me there was an automatic hike at 70,75,and 80 years old. take that into consideration.

State Farm for me on everything. I get a discount from them by keeping all my insurance in the same place.

Ask who ever you are getting your TT insurance from a few questions like this,

Is there equal replacement value insurance? Meaning 2 years after you get it and you have a total loss, do I collect a "depreciated value" or do I get a new camper of equivalent value when I purchased mine new? And what about at 5 years then then at 10 years?

If I am camping off my property and unhooked from the truck, I have a fire in the camper, it totals my camper and the rig next to us, what coverage do I have agasint my camper (because I was unhooked from the truck) and the damage to the rig next to me?

Do they have a dissappearing deductible for years of no claims? You are starting at a $1,000 deductible now.

As far as water damage, outside of the factory warranty and it is caused by bad caulk or frozen pipes and not a tree falling on the camper, odds may be favorable you may be out of luck.

The best insurance against water damage is educate yourself on how campers die from water intrusion. And be to the point of anal on roof caulking inspections at least 2 times a year, better is 4 or more as you wash the roof, always be looking. Any joint in the camper outside, windows, doors, edge corners, cargo holes, DOT lights, awning bracket mounts you name it, understand how they infect the camper with water... The older they get the more susceptible to water intrusion. This can start on year 2 sometimes year 1 when the factory messes up.

The next best way to augment against water damage, store the camper inside while not camping. I know this is not in the cards for every one, so be extra anal about the water damage education.

Another Farm Bureau. We have $250 ded on the TT and also the cars. Theft is covered under homeowners while TT is at home. While being towed, auto policy covers most things. Personal property, etc while not at home is covered very well with full replacement. Our premium is right at $80 per 6 months. Your quote seems high. We have everything with Farm Bureau, so what one policy might not cover, the other one will.

While with Geico, we had an awning taken out by a storm during the night and they were top notch in getting it replaced....even upgraded to the better quality because the company they'd recommended found that our original one was out of stock and the wait was lengthy, so just covered the upgrade. Very nice. Seems like the policy on our HTT was a bit less, maybe $65 per 6 months. Less trailer, less premium.

I think you will find that some of the things you want covered, like delamination from leaks and water damage from plumbing failures, are not usually covered under comprehensive and collision policies for towable RVs. I have not even seen extra-cost riders for this.

I've known people to make successful claims for damage caused by tire failures, and awnings coming loose on the road, but to get premiums you like, you might find deductibles above the typical repair costs for these problems.

Delam would be maintenance related? I didn't think it was. What about blowout caused body damage? Is that something insurance would cover?
