Travel Trailer Windows

We currently own a Rockwood Ultra Lite travel trailer. There is a window in the front that does not open and, during travel is covered. My wife wants to have a window installed that opens while camping but it still covered during travel. We went to local dealer today who said they could, perhaps, install an "emergency type window" that would open and close.

We cannot find any brand of trailer that has a factory installed front opening window.

Any comments, nice ones, or suggestions would be appreciated.

Our 2002 Sunline had a front window that opened (jalousie style) and it never gave us any problems. I would look for a crank out type window....not a slider as I think it would be less prone to any type of water leak. I wish our Minnie had a front window as they really help with ventilation. Instead, I'm going to be installing a Maxx Air vent system.

A quick Google search for RV windows will bring up several companies that sell windows and give pretty good directions on how to measure windows.

I would only suggest it be a strong window, very secure in the frame. There's a heck of a wind load on the front of a camper. Yours was engineered with a fixed piece. The wrong window could cause you some issues. (And leaks...we were told by more than one rep that they stopped doing them because they are leak magnets)

The 2008 Nash 22h we just sold had a front window that opened. It had the protective cover.

Any Glazier could make one. Might be pricey though

If you can figure out the rough opening size you may be able to find the kind of window you want on fleabay. There are hundreds of new, unused windows on there.

Our Wildwood 292FKDS has a front window that opens. It is a 2010 model purchased in 2009. It has a rock guard that fits over it while traveling.

Our 2004 Layton had a fixed front window. Never liked that setup.

You might want to be sure you have some kind of protective cover on the outside of any window you might get installed. (Also make sure that the dealer is able to install a window that matches - at least closely - the opening in the body of the trailer where the current window now sits. Most E windows seem to be a different size than those front windows. Anyway, you'll want to protect the window from rocks & other road debris that could easily damage it. Good luck!
