Trying out a S&B 60 gallon fuel tank

I put a Titan 50 gallon tank on my 2011 and now this S&B 60 gallon monster on my 2017 Ford F350. Install was quite enjoyable actually. I went almost 3 years with a factory tank in this 2017 and forgot how nice it is to go to the gas station half as often. My last towing trip from Utah to San Diego was the tipping point as I found out diesel is not as available in the California stations as it is in Utah.

Excellent video as always Epic. I had no idea that S&B even made these tanks and I've been all over these and truck forums for years. Been stuck on the other major two I guess. I ended up with an in bed gravity fed 51G for my dually, but this one is nice. Hope all things are well!

Hey Monty, great to hear from you. All is well (knock, knock). S&B is a new entry into the extended range fuel tank business. They've come in full blast though with extra features and volume. I'm truly impressed and happy to support them. Competition is good.

I find my stock fuel tank large enough that I seldom fill up on the road but I usually bring a 5 gallon jerry can with me which allows me to use the entire contents of my fuel tank. I've run about 40 km past 0 km to empty while towing a couple of times and have yet to run out.

On my early 2017 the truck would show empty after using 29 of the 34 gallons. Ford issued a tsb and replaced the sending units on trucks whose owners complained and that gained access to another 1.5 of the 5 gallons. S&B recommends replacing a part inside the sending unit for Fords built March 2017 or earlier if they haven't had the tsb performed.

The new 2020 Super Duty's will still have the 34 gallon tank for the short bed diesel but the gas models will have a 48 gallon tank. That might make the new 7.3 gas engine a more desirable option if it pulls well.

Why can 3 diff mfr's of larger aftermarket replacement tanks be made yet NOTHING of the size/capacity from Ford, GM & Ram? I say that and I have a 48 gallon stock tank on my '17 long bed, yet only 29 (factory) on short bed when a 50+ galloon is made aftermarket.

I think if I were to add fuel storage to my truck I'd give up my spare tire and build a tank for that spot. It would get me another 40 gallons. The other option I've considered is building a tank to go under the belly of my fiver.

Having 60 gallons under the bed and still looking stock is pretty impressive.

80 gallon transfer tank & 40 gallon in the truck. I use gas buddy, check price along my route, and fill when I find a good price. $2.88 today and $3.10 most stations, but wait $2.69 in NM my next stop. I'll take on 100 gallons or so there or $41 at the higher price or $19 at the lower price. Nice to be able to top off anytime I stop. Trucks always filled from the tank so it always has the freshest fuel. 1000+ miles lets me decide when & where to refuel, choices, so many choices. Watch the clerk when you hand them $200 and say pump 3.

Amen to that. That is the main advantage of a large tank right. Buy it when you want rather than when you have to. With the OEM 34 gallon tank I just couldn't go very far when towing and there was more than one time I was sweating hoping a place with diesel was close. 425 HP and 925 lb/ft of torque with 18K trailer gets me 9 mpg. It is what it is.
