Turned away, told me they dont accept truck campers

I posted something similar on the Lance forum about this. I was turned away at Bay Bayou RV Resort Tampa , Fl. They said no truck campers per management. Looking out their office window I could see several $5000.00 travel trailers and a few worn out class C"s and some newer class A"s . I guess a $100k plus truck /camper combo doesn't meet their requirement for RV"s. Do any of you experience this a lot ? Should I mention that I have a truck camper from now on, even if they don't ask when I'm making a reservation ? 2017 ram 3500and 2016 Lance 1172. Thx Chris

I've run into two campgrounds where I could not drop the truck camper, but none where we were not welcome.

Nope, never happen to me, but Florida is on my schedule for next week, so I know what to avoid.
I like to take advantage of my senior pass, so don't really look for private campground as they don't offer $7 or $10 hookups.
2nd note, I drop my camper at each campground where I stay more than 3 days and other members reported that as problem. Never happen to me.
To top it, we drove via Monument Valley, AZ (remember John Wayne movies?) where Indians have specific "NO RV allowed on the trail" signs.
I just drove via it with my camper.

Visited one in Arizona to visit friends and asked to stay for the night. Their street had tarp covered Class B's from the 1980's. Nope, we do not accept your kind here. Empty spots all around our friends site.

We were also told not to show up with a truck camper somewhere in
central Fla (laBelle ? Maybe)
No problem we just skipped the whole area.

If it has the word "Resort" in its name, you better ask if they are ok with TC'ers. Those are the only places I've encountered this, and it's not even an across the board thing. There used to be an RV resort in NW Atlanta that I regularly stayed at when I was there on business. Very nice place, and I was usually the only TC there. They didn't even have a problem with me taking the camper off the truck.

No city, state, or federal campground will ever turn you away.

I guess I need to look more closely at what the web sites say regarding restrictions. I went by what Pass Port America had printed about the rv park and it said nothing about no truck campers

That would be my first question when making a reservation. Why make reservations and then find out they don't allow TC's when you arrive?

It's the way it is. We are a niche group. On the plus side, there are lots of RV parks out there if you need to stay in one.

Sorry you were treated this way, Chris. Their loss for not accepting your setup. We have traveled across this country a coupe of times and recently returned from an Alaska trip. Never once were we refused at a CG for having a TC.

Commercial / privately owned CGs are able to make their own rules. If we don't like those rules, we can choose not to frequent their establishments. I think after having made a reservation, and their staff not explaining at the time of the reservation that TCs were not accepted, they should have made an exception to the rule in your case. Especially after observing that your TC was an up-to-date set up that anyone would be proud to own. The CG in question was partially at fault and should have accommodated you.

Very snotty and a good place to steer away from. My opinion. Worth what you paid for it.

Thanks for sharing.

Prejudice. Snooty people dont want TC among them and are too stupid to realize that many rigs are over $100K. Urinate on them

Per their website:

Bay Bayou RV Resort serves motorcoaches, travel trailers and fifth wheel trailers no older than 15 years old, in excellent condition. Sorry, but we are unable to accommodate tents, truck campers, folding camping trailers (pop ups) and any vehicles with canvas sides.

I've never been turned away at a commercial rv park but I don't frequent them. The reason we have a TC is to get away from large concentrations of people.
