I have been told by DW to upgrade our current tow truck. She has give me $15,000 and trade in of the old TV. I love my chevy gasser but need some leather seats and heated seats for DW. I am looking for something (Chevy, GMC, Ford, Dodge) 2010 or newer with less than 60,000 miles 3/4 ton or 1 ton with goose neck hitch in back for my companion hitch. What would you buy? Need to know about Chevy 6.6L and prefer gas.

The models noted above were as good as it gets, until you jump forward to the trucks with (D)iesel (E)xhaust (F)luid emissions systems.

May need to put a few more RV bucks(1000's) into the deal!

He's going to have to add a whole bunch more money than 15K to the pot if he wants an LBZ. I just looked mine up and it's worth 26K as it sits. :E

I talked to a buddy of mine who is an expert on the LBZ. If it is authentic I can give you like $2.00.

Keep in mind I never know who is going to walk through that door and I may have to set on it for a few months.

Now if you had a vintage Les Paul to throw in with it I could give you $10 cash, and an additional $5 of in store credit.

Godspeed my friend. Recently went through the truck search.

In the 250/2500 and 350/3500 arena you have 2 things in the under $20k price: 1) Old trucks with tons of miles or 2) Hot rodded/lifted trucks with lots of issues. Even bumping the price up to $30k there are some deals but many will have miles or have obviously towed their entire life.

In the 150/1500 space it's a little better but even then the same rules seem to apply.

It took me 6 months to find something decent and in the budget. Although I was only searching for Fords. But I imagine the same applies for all the makes.

Last Feb I spent $19,000 on a 2006 GMC Sierra 2500HD DuraMax with 120,000 miles. Great truck very well taken care off--- mint shape. I love it.

How about updating the seats on your current truck.

Leather and heat can be added or new seats swapped in.

So assuming you get $5k for your trade you'd have about $20k to work with... Maybe looking at something around $18k before taxes and fees depending on what that's like where you live.

I think your wish list is a stretch. We just traded our 2010 base model Acadia and got $19k for it from the dealer. I can't imagine a loaded 2010 3/4 ton CC 4x4 going for less than that, but who knows.

You might want to read this comparison test on the vehicles you are interested in. If you like your current truck, you'll love a 2007.5+ GM HD gasser. The 6-spd trans really makes a large difference in how it pulls plus all the other improvements with GMT900 over GMT800.

If looking outside of GM, I recommend Ford's 6.8L V10, skip the 5.4L. 2011 offered the 6.2L which is also great. The Ram I do not like the trans gear ratios compared to Ford/GM 6-spds. But the tests and owner experiences all say it is strong. If you go with gas, find a shorter axle ratio truck. 4.xx instead of 3.73.

I have a feeling you're not in the financial ball park. I did a quick internet search for Chevy Silverado, landed on a couple web sites. Found this on one of them. This is an average cost of the Silverado. When looking at their site, it has trucks from all over the country. I think these figures are pretty average too. I don't know if these prices are diesel, dually's, or engine size without exploring each one:

Chevy Silverado:

2012 - $33,220
2011 - $26,900
2010 - $25,096
2009 - $21,684
2008 - $17,955
2007 - $18,005
2006 - $14,043
