Used “Canadian” trucks

Been looking at a few used newer model year used heavy duty pick ups. Some I have seen here in the Pacific NW are having Canadian window stickers from new that say “Not for Sale in US”. Dealers are not openly disclosing these are built for Canada ????.

Any potential issues? The one I test drove 2020 Ford F-350 seemed fine and I didn’t realize until I left and did deeper research. I didn’t seem to notice the speedo reading in km. Funny, the dealer said it was the owner’s previous truck from new. Liars.

the physical speed guage doesnt change though, they have both metric and SAE on them and if its a canadian modle it will have the metric promanant and the sae in small numbers , I dont know if the US models have the opposit or just SAE. for example in my canadin f350 platinum I can switch all my readouts to SAE but that is just for the odomiter, tempature, fuel range and such like that. My spedomiter will still show me both at the same time, just the metric is more prominant.

I am not sure what you are asking exactly?

Steve

What does SAE stand for with regards to a measurement that's used in only three countries in the world?

Well SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers. An organization that has nothing to do with the measurements the US uses.

The non-metric measurement is called the Imperial System.

well, it's the Imperial system vs. metric rather than SAE

feet/gallons (of which there are two, U.S. gallons (4qts) and Imperial gallons (5qts)) /pounds. those terribly antiquated and unrelated methods used in the U.S, myanmar, liberia

vs. kg, meters, litres used by the rest of the world.

Actually it's the "consumer" side of the US hung up on the antiquated system. Thankfully most every company mfg products has switched to the metric system for hardware.

I purchased a 2 year off lease F250 that was a Canada vehicle. They need to be properly imported back to the US. Mine had the mfg warranty still intact. The gauges defaulted to metricl and French language if the battery was disconnected but you just changed the items like normal. Mine had the dash overlay changed so the spedo was in mph in the larger numbers.

ya a speedo chage out is required for me to inport a US vehicle and some times on bike a signal light change as your alowed to have them closer togeather on a motor bike than we are, but for some reason when I bought my harley from the dealer here it only had MPH on it. guess dealers dont have to fiollow the same rules I do haha.

Last summer we looked at and passed on a 2015 Ford Edge Sport at a NW Wa car dealer. The hubs of the brake rotors were very rusty and the Canadian import caused us to pass on it. We ended up buying a local Ford dealer service loaner 2020 Edge ST that was deeply discounted with 1500 miles on the clock.

That's true but it also has a large digital speed readout in the center that I suspect is what people look at the most.

Looser emissions standards in CA, I believe.

Mine is great.

My daughter bought a Canadian acadia. Dealer reset the odometer to miles vs kilometers. Maybe, they don't meet us emissions?

Emisions are the same in both countries, however Ontario no longer requiers yearly emision checks,so if your state does you may have problems.
Btw best place to buy used is in Alberta no salt on roads and no sales tax

In 2018 I bought a 2016 F150 that was a Canadian model. I’ve had no trouble with it except for the fact that my owners manual is in French. Should paid attention in high school when they taught that. Also had some warranty work done with no issue.
