What we got

After weeks of dithering, we finally did it yesterday. We were looking at Ram 1500s and Ford F-150s, despite really wanting a diesel, but we just couldn't justify the size of the 2500s and F-250s for our needs. We did find a new Ram 1500 that we really liked, but the cargo numbers just weren't working for us and it was pretty expensive.

So we got a 2014 Ford F-150 XLT, dark red metalic.
4x4
3.5L V6 Ecoboost
3.73 axle ratio
Crew cab
Cargo capacity 1441, per the door tag
GVWR 7200
Factory tow package

We drove one with the off-road package, which would have allowed us to tow 9600#, among other things, but didn't like the ride or the feel of the seats. So this one doesn't have those items, but it has a somewhat stiffened suspension as part of the tow package.

We downloaded a table from the web that shows that outfitted as it is, with that axle ratio, it's "real" towing capacity is 9600, but since we top out at about 6000#, that's not a concern.

Anyway, that's what we have. It's gigantic and doesn't have a helper handle in the driver's door, so getting in is a good show for anyone watching me, but I think it'll work well for us.

I'd post a picture, but can't figure out how to do so. (I asked the Admin. to pin that information to the top of the thread list, but it hasn't happened yet.)

What is wrong with asking a question? I have worked construction all my life, never sat at a desk with a computer for wok, yet I can read and figure out how to post pics, it's not that difficult.
Just ignore him Dog Trainer, another I'm better than you, or I'm right and your wrong type of person. All 3 of his responses have said the same thing.

๐Ÿ™‚ Hi, when searching for my truck there were things that I had to have.

F-150 Supercrew cab W/ Ecoboost 3.5 L V-6
Max tow package, mostly for the towing mirrors
Cloth Buckets with a center consul
Back-up camera, 3:73 electronic locking differential
Four wheel drive, 36 gallon gas tank.
Spray on bed liner
Blue Jeans or Ingot Silver paint
Originally 6.5' bed, but changed that to the 5.5' bed

I wanted cloth bucket seats, not bench, and a center consul because my Lincoln has leather seats and they are not as comfortable as the cloth seats were in my 96 Explorer. So I wanted to go back to cloth. I did not get the spray in bed liner, but had it done locally at a Line-X dealer. We were unable to find what I wanted in Blue or Silver so I now have three white vehicles at home. The long bed would just fit in my garage by about 2"s And the more I thought about it the short bed would work better for us.

There were also things that I would not have.

Deal breakers were a Moon roof, seven lug wheels, and Black paint. (and a few other colors)

Things that I got that I might not have ordered.
Off Road package, tail gate step, HID headlights, LT tires.

My truck would most likely have a payload of 1,900 lbs, but I think the skid plates that came with the Off Road package cost me 155 lbs, making mine 1,745 lbs payload.

Elegant truck you got there, Robertsunrus! And the off-road package gets you a lot more payload, obviously. We loved all the bells and whistles we could have had, but wound up with a somewhat stripped-down model. We have leather buckets and a console only because the first one we looked at, the off-road one with the hard ride, had cloth bench seats and a useless console. The only musts for us were 4WD, decent payload, factory tow package, openable rear window, and crew cab. Everything else was negotiable. As it is, it was expensive enough; no way could we have afforded the Lariats my husband was drooling over.

Everyone has to send there pictures to photobucket or some other photo hosting site, that way the owner of this forum does not have to pay to store everyone's pictures, I believe most forums work this way.

Hi, on the Airstream forum, I pick the pictures that I want to post from my personal computer albums; So much easier. I tried to post one more picture last night, but Photobucket wouldn't let me. I could be wrong, but it looked like Photobucket wanted some money from me to do it.

My experience is that the photobucket issue is the exception, at least to the sites I frequent. It does suck and I think takes away from the overall positive experience of the forum. I understand why they do it, but it certainly is not necessary that they do it. It is simply easier on the maintenance side of running the site.

๐Ÿ™‚ Hi, MargaretB; I also recently bought a new F-150. I just got my first 1,000 miles break in but haven't towed with it yet. If towing before the 1,000 miles you could end up with a whining or howling differential. Best to wait.

I had a hard time posting pictures too. I had to send my pictures to Photobucket and post them from there. Too much of a hassle so I rarely post pictures on this forum anymore.

I made a list of must haves and a list of deal breakers and had a few dealers try to find a truck with what I want / need. In the end, my dealer found one in Reno, Nevada and trailered it to Salem, Oregon. Mine came with the Off Road Package. It wasn't on my list, but I'm OK with it. It rides better than my wife's BMW X-3. I also wanted cloth buckets with a center consul.

So far, five days later, we are! You are all so helpful and friendly, and I wouldn't know any of what (I think) I know were it not for the conversations on this site. My husband - and most of the dealers in the Sac area - are really tired of hearing about "the guys."
