There was an article in the Semi thread a couple months back about the Hyundai future truck. The VP of Engineering made a statement regarding the Tesla Semi will be in violation of Fed bridge limits regarding weight versus wheelbase he said they forgot to allow for this. There was also a Euro reg regarding front overhang that apparently it and the Nikola are out of spec. So they can’t go into city areas.
Anybody else pick up on that?

Point being that most roads are designed for heavy truck traffic. The extra costs for building roads are due to truck traffic.
If it wasn't for the heavy truck traffic roads would last a lot longer.

So EV's and really any autos impact on road degradation is minimal.
The exception being maybe a local road in a housing subdivision that wasn't designed to carry massive weights to begin with.
That is why you will see posted weight limits on local roads.

There is more than weight that adds to the expense of operating roads. Signage, guardrails, signal lights, law enforcement, mowing, snow removal are a few. To allow some vehicles to not share the burden gets back to the politics of this subject.

Any vehicle with weight will wear out and degrade roads. The heavier they are the more they degrade the roads. The damage a vehicle does is directly proportional to it's weight. This is the reason why many roads and bridges have weight limits. With Tesla's and other BEV's being heavier than average vehicles, they will be causing more damage than a comparable ICE yet paying less to repair that damage.

The bottom line where the total tax is listed is where the hogs come to the trough.

Hopefully the rebates come to an end and then taxes are collected to fund the highways.

Yes, they get rebates, often get cheaper plates(depends on state) do not pay highway use taxes, and get to use the carpool lanes anytime.

As usual, those at the trough do not see anything wrong with this.

It is real easy to be liberal with other peoples money.
