For the first time, I put my Lance 1040 on my new Dodge 4500, 4 x 4 CC,Cummings. It appears to fit perfectly, maybe to perfect. I might need wiggle room. I have 3 guides on each side of the bed, so I know that It can not move much may 1/2 inch side to side. One big concern was trying to remember how I rewired the plug. I lucked out and was right when I wired the truck with the charge wire to the center post and the backup wire to the power feed position. That way I can use the largest wire possible to charge the battery. I put bleach in the tanks and circulated it through the system. A problem occurred. No water out of the shower head. I suspected that crud may have clogged it up, I was right. It is soaking in bleach now. I will try to get the wife to take some new pictures to post. Heading to Key West Florida May 19 to the 25.

I don't come to this thread much anymore. Real tired of wading through all the "I looked at it" "I touched it" "I patted it" "I washed it" BS to see if there was anything actually interesting posted. Talk about a waste of bandwidth!!

Hey Mello!

Appreciate your response and Kerry. Its true some topics don't warrant an entire thread, but one can't always be sure which ones do and which ones don't. Thus open posting with interesting headlines will pull in lurkers and others who happen to have a passing interest. At least that's my observation.

A thread of this type is extremely hard to navigate. That is my experience on the Avion thread. We actually have guys who are cataloguing the pages so that newbies can access the material we have gone over. I don't think that sort of things happens very often with generalized material.

Here's the thing, though. As I stated before this is an enormous string that a lot of people have found interesting. Others have suggested that it takes away interesting posts that might otherwise be read. I understand that we all want to maximize the access to the Forum and enlarge the truck camping experience...so thats what I'm thinking about.

As to whether nicer weather is lessening the postings, don't know. There has also been bad weather and low postings.

Gotta go. Its beautiful outside!

I agree with Kerry. Some topics don't warrant an entire thread which makes this thread valuable, whereas if you're involved with an important project or have an important question, those topics deserve their own thread. I think the low number of posts at this time has more to do with folks going out and enjoying their camper now that Spring is here rather than a loss of interest in this forum or a particular thread sucking the energy out of the forum.

I think it can depend on the particular thing you are writing about. If I go out and add a little caulk to a bad spot on my TC, and if I wanted to post that, I would more than likely use this thread. If I built a new couch/dinette combo, or added a new full wall wardrobe, I would want to start a new thread on something that major. Thats just my thoughts.

Folks, I want to start a discussion. Respectfully.

As I write there have been only about a dozen posts to the Truck Camper Forum in the last day. That is a very low number, almost at the breaking point. At least, that is my opinion. This is perplexing when its clear that the truck camping community is growing by leaps and bounds. The baby boomers are retiring and making choices about their leisure time.

I started a thread that was specific to Avion Truck Campers. It has gone ballistic, with thousands of comments and page views. It is now the best resource anywhere for that SPECIFIC camper. I note that Amerigo has a long string as well.

Here's the point: I think that the traffic to the site, and the enjoyment of the Forum, is to see the interesting posts coming up every day. This string is almost buried with all sorts of unique and interesting material that is largely unaccessible. However, it is undeniable that this string is valuable. After all, look at the huge number of posts and views.

I don't really know the answer, but I suspect that sometimes a generalized thread such as this, can suck a great deal of the energy out of the general Forum. In other words there is a place for a specific interests such as the Avion and the Amerigo, but maybe not for an internal and generalized discussion.

I deeply emphasize that this is a respectful opinion, only meant to elicit some thoughtful discussion......if you like I will start another thread to discuss this, but I am interested in your opinions. Especially Mello Mike who does such wonderful work with his write ups.

What do you think?

Loaded on the truck, de-winterized, tanks filled...and I cut 1.5" off the bottom of one or our ward cabinet doors which wouldn't open due to the increased height of our memory foam mattress. Since I don't have access to my router or table saw right now, the results were hideous...and I won't be taking pictures. I'll be able to yank the door later and route/stain the edge to clean it up.

I also received a US map to put on the outside of our camper, haven't installed one since we purchased it.

Headed out this afternoon for 4 days camping, first trip of the season, making a shakeout run prior to hitting the Alcan in a few weeks.

cleaned the inside of the camper after our trip, put the now clean towels and, like Buzzcut, cotton sheets on the bed instead of flannel ones, emptied the fridge, wiped it out and left it open to dry. Washing the entire rig today too. Can't wait for the next adventure! ๐Ÿ™‚

Gonna get up on a ladder this weekend and see if I can figure out where on the fridge roof vent it's leaking. Figuring the freezing weather and snow likely caused damage, hopefully it's just the plastic top that needs repair/replacing vs needing to reseal the roof.
