A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

Good morning everyone. Sue says there is nothing like a good book. being outdoors relaxing in a good chair to make your day.

We really had a good trip. The drive is easy and its not that far to travel for a few days. The worse part of the trip is the twenty mile stretch from our house to Interstate 26. Its stop and go, stop and go and hope just maybe you can catch the lights in a sequence where you can catch them all green. But it is four lane all the way going and coming.

Looking forward to Georgetown, Kentucky in June, then home for a few weeks before venturing out again.

I have been trying to figure a way to keep the wipe seals from crinkling up in the slide when it comes in and out. I watched a video on a way to use the plastic corner things you use in dry wall installation, attach them to the sides of the slide out with 3m double sided adhesive. This will pull out the seal or push in the seal when the slide moves in and out, therefore not allowing it to crinkle up. Just might try it.

Okay the girls are fine and out for a walk. It rained last night so the ground is wet, just right for mowing the lawn today. Have a blessed day, Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. OH, by the way, one week away from the wedding of my youngest grandson. This is the second wedding I have done for my grandchildren.

SGT. Joe hope your cat is going to be ok.

Richard glad Sue's monitor was found. When I can't find something I always pray to ST. Anthony
(the patron Saint of lost things) and I always find them.

. We got home yesterday and discovered Sue has lost her glucose monitor. Must have lost it at a rest area we stopped at for lunch. She walked the dogs while I got the camper ready for us to go inside and eat. At best it is a set up to get lost. It clips to your belt or the waistband of your pants. It easily comes off and this is not the first time she has lost it, but in the past it was around the house and it turned up later.

Found the monitor on the floor of the camper in front of the refrigerator. Now since we looked the camper over several times and it was not there I am inclined to believe God found it at the rest area in North Carolina, sent it by special angel and placed it in the camper just to make us think we had overlooked it the many times we searched for it. Ain't God great.

Spent the past 4 days up in Salt Lake with our daughters and got my 5x7 trailer ready to tow back to Saint George. I was worried about towing it with our CR-V but she handled it really good at 75 mph. Got up this morning and found our cat, Murray not feeling good. She will be 22 years old in September. She's not eating or drinking and when we hold her close there is no purring. She isn't walking around bugging the dogs like she always does in the mornings. Dreading that I may have to help her pass on. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. Will just keep an eye on her for now.

Good morning everyone. Marsden I tired the cleaning the roof deal years ago, never again.

We got the camper unloaded and parked on its pad, today I will empty the holding tanks and work on repairing the wipe seal that has torn again. This is the seal that wipes the slide-out edge as it comes in and also protect the interior of the slide from run off water during a rain.

I have come up with a way to know how good or bad my driving is. I have Sue grade me on a scale of one to ten one being the worst, ten being the best, on how well I have done by the end of the day. This way it keeps me aware of my driving habits and actually reminds me that at the end of the day I will receive a grade on my driving skills So before I speed up or try to pass slower traffic, change lanes I think is the really necessary? Yesterday I got a nine for our trip home. I told her the first time I receive a grade of five I quit driving. Try it and see if you benefit from this little bit of being monitored by someone you love and trust. It will keep your driving habits a little more honest in your own assessment. However, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Okay I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them. By the way, post more of your favorite pictures of your fur babies.

Hello everybody, just checking in. Lurking around the thread as always. A friend and I decided to wash the trailer and do the rubber roof maintenance ourselves last weekend. "After all, how hard can it be?" Hah! Took us parts of 3 days! Next time I'm paying an RV service place and I don't care how much!

Now that that's done I'm ready to hit the road for my annual "Hooray school's out and I haven't killed any clients" trip. Unfortunately I have to wait until school is actually out to leave town. My feet itch.
