A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Went camping this weekend at a campground on the lake, had not been there for a few years. Once there I began to walk around looking at the different sites when I noticed a very old dog. He just lay there until I got too close then he got up on three legs and hobbled away. Just judging I would say he is at least 11 years old. Well back to my story. The next afternoon he wanders into camp and just sits there looking. He looked so sad, so the wife got a bowl of our dog's food and put it down for him and he came over and ate. He then walked over to our dog and the two of them sniffed each other over and then they lay down together for the rest of the afternoon. That night he disappeared.
The next morning he was back and was a little more receptive of me. I looked at his injured leg and found that half of his rear foot was gone. It had healed and was not causing any problem except that he was walking on the stub that was left with no foot pad which causes him to limp. His front teeth were gone except for one canine tooth and it looked decayed. His eyes were tired looking and showing his age. He spent the rest of the day just laying around looking for a handout and by afternoon the campground host came around and saw him. I enquired about the dog and was told he had been there for three years and that most of the campers were tolerant of him and gave him food.
So what to do? Do you pick him up and bring him home or do you let nature take it course. He can't harm anyone, he has no teeth and he isn't a nuisance unless you don't like dogs, and no one seems to mind him being there. He is gentle and likes other animals as seen by his interaction with our dog. He still would not let me touch him but he would eat from my hand. Enough said, what would you do???

On June 28th 2008 Old Fella passed away of complications caused by bone cancer. Fella spent almost three years with his new family and became the icon of rescued old stray dogs. He will be greatly missed but his foot prints have been left in our hearts forever.

Now Charlie, the ten year old rescued Golden Lab has come to be a part of the continuing Old Fella story. (*Note, Charlie took his journey to Rainbow Bridge unexpectedly September 30, 2008)Suzie continues to charm her way into our hearts with her antics as she has grown from a puppy into a young lady. Togther they will carry on the Old Fella legacy. Come join us in their daily lives and be a part of the best feel good thread in RV.NET history. The legacy lives on.

Good morning everyone. Yesterday I had a set back. My Doctor thinks I may have suffered a small mini stroke. I am going to the hospital today for a cat scan, If that doesn't show anything they will do an MRI. It was so strange. suddenly I got real dizzy and couldn't stand up. My face started tingling. I had a strange feeling in my head. I came home and sat in my lounge chair and felt better after a while. An EMT was on the scene when I got the spell and made notes that the left side of my face was sagging or drooping. It all cleared up after a while, so strange. Anyway I am going to the hospital for a check up and cat scan. I will tell you later what they find. I need to get moving so I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

I hope you all are keeping your spirits up and staying healthy.

We're doing well and trying to adjust to our new normal. I've found very positive things, the kindness of people and attitudes of neighbors. We interact from a distance with a wave when we normally don't notice each other.

We've gotten grocery deliveries in an amazingly quick manner. I have to give credit to mostly younger people who are doing the shopping and delivery.

Amazon has been utilitzed, and I applaude thier workers, both the seen delivery and unseen warehouse workers.

I feel lucky that the disruption to our lives have been more emotional than real danger as our health care workers are facing daily.

I'm glad we are at our home in Florida for this. Phaeton Place is about 10 steps from the front door where she sits under her bus port attached to the house.

Monday we called our doctors' offices in Indiana. Terry wanted to continue to doctor at our "old" places till fall when our transition to Florida would be complete. All the doctors were rescheduling as much as 90 days out. We opted to "telehealth" with our primary physician, so we have that coming up. Terry's cardio has not responded to our phone message. . . typical since our wonderful pacer nurse retired. So our calendar is clear till the end of May when I wanted to be in Indiana for my great-niece's graduation. But that can be cancelled if need be.

The biggest drawback of being stuck here is that we have stuff in storage back in Indiana that we hoped to have here by now to unload and put away. I have hobbies and have been keeping busy, but Terry doesn't have hobbies and is bored to death. We aren't going anywhere or visiting anyone. We go out for a walk in the morning and rarely see anyone. Ride our bikes in the evening. . .same thing there. No socializing.

Hope all of you are well and staying inside.

"My neighbor went to buy a shotgun Friday and was told the shotguns were sold out and also handguns Ammunition was limited to one box per customer. This was Cabela's."

There has been a run on guns and ammo here as well.

Yesterday we had a lot of rain during the day. Last night we had severe thunderstorms come through. The thunder and very hard rain kept me up most of the night. This morning we have some sun it will disappear some later today with more clouds rolling in. It will be a cool week next week as temperatures will be back down in the upper 40's to low 50's.

We have only been going out for food and medicines since March 13. Yesterday we ordered groceries online and are having them delivered. We are doing our best to stay in and away from people. The lines they keep showing on TV of people waiting to get into seek medical treatment is unbelievable.

Stay safe and Healthy.

Good morning everyone. My neighbor went to buy a shotgun Friday and was told the shotguns were sold out and also handguns Ammunition was limited to one box per customer. This was Cabela's. I told Steve I had enough for the both of us. Coyotes are back on the prowl, I guess its that time of year when the pups are being born and they need extra food. Anyway lately we have been hearing them in the woods by the house howling at night. I hate to shoot them. but they can be so destructive and harmful to our pets. I guess they have a right to live as much as anything else. God put them here for a reason and it is their part to balance nature. Everything has a place in nature, God planned it that way. The African proverb says. When the sun comes up in the morning the lion is chasing a Gazelle for his food. The Gazelle is running for his life. SO when the sun comes up you best be running.

When I watch the nature programs on Television I see the side of nature where the young are being born and the parents are out gathering food to bring back to the den. I see nature taking care of it's own. The fox kittens and the coyote pups are cute. I see where sometime people will take them and try to domesticate them. They are still wild animals and can be dangerous. Occasionally you will see where a lion or Gorilla is raised up in a family setting. It is cute at first but them they grow into adults and are kept in a house or cage. this is unnatural and is stressful on the animal. I remember seeing in the news when a Chimpanzee tore the face off of a woman visiting the home where the Chimp lived. It was a bad thing that happened. but some animals cannot be tamed to the point of being completely safe.

I had a neighbor when I lived in National Hills that had a pet raccoon, One day he went to give the raccoon fresh water and the raccoon attacked him. He was wounded very badly on his arm. The raccoon was put down and it took a long time for Bob's arm to heal as the bite wounds were very deep. I have seen a fox that was raised from a baby and how he had adapted to his life with humans. He was so affectionate to his handler. He would act like a dog at times. So excited to see his handler come home and play with him. He was kept in the house during the evening hours and out in a pen during the day while his folks were at work. He was so playful and his love for his people was evident when you saw him with them. I don't know what happened to the fox over the years, I just hope he had a great life and it all ended well.

Okay enough rambling. I will close for now wishing everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me and be sure to tell someone you love them.

For the most part, I have been working at home this week. I did work from the office on Monday and again for a few hours yesterday but will be home today. Even though they extended tax season, we are still extremely busy (I work for a CPA firm).

The dogs have been happy to have me home and today my wife is working from home so they are playing and having a good time.

I took some supplies and food over to my mom yesterday. It usually takes me about 30 minutes with traffic to get to her house. I made the round trip in 44 minutes. Very little traffic on the roads at around 7pm last night. It was really strange.

Most restaurants are now closed in my area. A few places are still offering takeout. There is a little hole in the wall wing place down the road. I have been getting takeout there trying to give him the business. I am getting tired of wings but I plan on picking up some tomorrow to take to my father in law.

I might take the motorhome out for a drive this weekend and also run the generator to keep things running. We had two trips planned in the next two months and both places have closed so it will be awhile before we get to take a trip on the motorhome.

I hope everyone has a great day.

Hope everyone is safe and well.

We enjoyed some sunshine the last 2 days. Yesterday it was in the upper 60's. Such a nice day we ventured outside and did a little yard. Not much else you can do.

Good morning everyone. WE have elderly people going to the hospital and family have been turned away from entering because of the threat of spreading the virus. This has caused a lot of stress within the family not being able to be with loved ones during their stay in the hospital. I understand the reasoning behind this, but it makes it hard on those folks who are elderly and don't want to be separated from those they love and care for. This virus has affected so many people and business. You wonder when it will stop.

Okay we are well here and seem to be okay. WE don't have any symptoms of illness so far. WE are staying home. Only go out to grocery store and drug store. Not venturing out into mainstream crowds such as malls and shopping centers. Please use caution during these times and stay safe. I wish everyone a blessed day. Be sure to give the fur babies a hug for me nd be sure to tell somoen you love them

This is a very stressful time. All the hospitals have limited visitation to keep the spread down.
The only way this is going to end is to keep the stay at home orders in effect and keep up social distance.
We are very cautious when we do need to go out. But some people come right up on you. I try to walk away and they are right there again.

Well I can keep going on but I'll get off the soap box.

Stay safe and healthy.

It will stop when we have a vaccine, but that's a year away.

It will slow down to a "reasonable" risk when enough people are infected and recover and enough people stay at home that the surge to our health care system subsides. It could become more manageable if we find a treatment. It will be more manageable when we actually test enough people that we can isolate and contact trace those infected.

We have to get to a point that our health care system can manage the number of people infected.

Listen to the health care professionals NOT politicians.

The only time this stay at home should be lifted is when the numbers of cases level off AND we can test and isolate people who are asymptomatic carriers. Otherwise this thing will continue to spread and overwhelm our health care system.

Hopefully our leaders will provide a package of support, loans and grants to allow people and businesses to weather this storm.

There has been a run on gun sales and ammunition here in Ohio. Gun shops had to put a limit on ammunition.

It is Crazy out there. Ohio just went into a stay at home where all non essential businesses had to close as of 11:59 PM last night.
A lot of the grocery stores for the first hour everyday are for senior citizens only. I had to get to the local store this morning when it opened to get some Hamburger for my sister n law. She could not find any.

We are on our 3rd week now of staying at home. Starting to go a little crazy. But we just now started the state wide mandate of stay at home until April 6th but don't hold to much hope out that it will be lifted.

My office is down to skeleton crew right now. I will be working from home most days (today included).

We have a deep freeze and I have enough food to last a month or more if needed. We have plenty of toilet paper and if we run out, the motor home is only a few miles down the road and I have several packages of toiler paper there.

I feel really bad for the local business owners. There is a small hole in the wall chicken wing place down the street. Only seats about 15-20 people or so. He has gone to take out only and I told him I would come by at least once a week and put in an order. Many of the restaurants won't recover from this.

I am blessed that I have a job that is probably immune to this crisis (Public CPA firm) but many others are not.

Hopefully this will pass sooner or later and things will get back to normal before people start getting cabin fever. Desperate people sometimes to desperate things when things get rough so I hope crime doesn't become a problem in the next few weeks.
