89 north from Kanab to Bryce Canyon National Park

We visited Bryce Canyon NP last summer for a couple of weeks and are leaving May 14th to volunteer for the summer. We drove to Cedar City first last year. Don't need to go there, so we would like to take 89 north to Byyce. How is the road pulling a fifth wheel?

It's a shame he didn't check further because you can drive into the park even though the facilities are closed. You can always 'look' at the Canyon. 🙂

Off topic, but it's Kanab, so here goes:

I'm in a motel lobby in Kanab last week, guy pulls in in a really spiffed 60's Corvette. "We're reliving our honeymoon", he says to the clerk, "heading down to North Rim to revisit the spots we loved!"

Crestfallen when informed that North Rim isn't open yet, likely won't be for over another month.

Planning, my friends, planning!

89 between Kanab and Hwy 12 (Bryce) is a very good highway for RVers of any size. Lucky you for the volunteer gig at Bryce. You'll have a 'cool' summer!

Hey, two of my best buddies right ahead of this. Thanks for the info as we will be using that this Fall and this is good news. Have done the bypass and it worked but not all that much fun.

The highway has been completely repaired and is now open. Here's a link with history, repair information and photos.

OK, did they get 89 repaired or are you still using the bypass?
Lauren, I think they completely reopened the road in late March. We're hoping to head to the North Rim this summer and I've been keeping an eye on that section.

The only slide was the one south of Page. No worries. The road is open and in great shape.

Please help us out here. I can find nothing about a slide between Kanab and Bryce Canyon, only the one in AZ north of the north rim of the GC.

Drove it just last week. The road is in great shape. Moderate number of trucks and northbound snowbird RV'ers -- not having trouble.

I drive this route 2 to 3 times a year pulling my 13K FW. No problems at all.

Good 2-lane with a few passing lanes.
Watch your speed as you start the decent into Mt Carmel Junction (about 17mi north of Kanab).
With the exception of a couple large climbs/decents, the road is rolling hills and some curves that will make you drop the throttle but nothing major.
That will be the easiest route for you to take, and there is no reason to worry.

What slide area was there here? Are you thinking about the Big Cut south of Page?
