Best route Myrtle Beach to Upstate NY

Looking for a better way back home. On the way here we took 81 to 66 to 17 to 95. Was pretty good except the one hour delay at the 17 to 95 interchange. Are we better off just taking 95 to 495 around DC? Or am I asking for trouble with traffic there to.

We are leaving Myrtle Friday AM...hopefully before 8.

I would probably go I-74 to I-77 to I-81 myself for that trip. On paper, US501 to I-81 north of Roanoke looks not unreasonable, too. I don't think it makes much sense at all to take I-95 if you're going to the vicinity of Syracuse.

Frozen,

My guess is that your looking at about a 12+ hour trip going due north then nw towards Harrisburg. Will encounter most traffic along the way near DC and Baltimore.

Heading closer to Syracuse so the Baltimore route is too far east. The 26,77,81 is too far west. The 288 to 64 might work just have to see how much time that will add

We like 95, 26, 77, 81, and 88 to go to our Adirondack cottage from Florida, but 74 to 77, etc, would work better from Myrtle Beach. Depending on just where in upstate NY you want go, 81 to 90 may be a better route than 88.

You won't hit that delay going from I-95 to US17 going north. Still the best way area DC and NY metro areas.

I've done the 95/495 route twice and it was horrible pulling a rig. Last year went the 81 route and found it much more big rig friendly, less traffic, and tolls....

Well you could run 95 up thru and around DC staying on 95 to 695 west around Baltimore to 83 towards Harrisburg. A bit longer route would be to head NW and p/u I-74 north to 77 north to 81. This is just based off what I see in road atlas.

Can't help once out of NC. But IF you are at South Myrtle. You can go up 544 to 31. Run 31 to 9, and up to 95, OR hit 701 to 410 to 74, and up to 95. IF you are at north Myrtle. Hit 22 to 31 to 9. don't have to get on 17.

Now that is only if the 17 you speak of is the one that runs thru Myrtle. I have an idea it isn't, so never mind
