We must return to MN this week and take I35 North from Waco TX.
With all the road construction going on, what is the best route thru
Dallas Fort Worth and Oklahoma City?
Thanks

when my oldest son was attending Texas A&M we would pull our 5th wheel to College Station twice a year. We would often exit the interstate North of Dallas and drive surface roads. Added 2 hours to the trip (from Tulsa) but much less stressful.

Coming into Oklahoma City from the south on I-35, best route depends on where you want to come out.

Going east or west, I prefer taking I-240 most times of the day, unless I have a local destination on I-40.

Going north out I-35, or northeast out 1-44, I'll usually take I-235 up to the I-44 expressway if I-40 looks backed up onto the exit ramps, otherwise I just follow the I-35 routing using 1/2 mile of I-40. The second junction, I-35 leaving I-40, is conveniently in the far right lane for northbound I-35.

A lot of people like to go up 235 to the Kilpatrick Turnpike, particularly if they are leaving OKC on I-44, because for 44 it is a straight through the second 35/44 junction. But for getting back onto I-35 to go north it is messier than the alternatives.

I would take US84 east to I-45 north. At Ennis, take TX 34 to I-20 west. Then take TX 205 north to US380 west. Take US75 N, to US 69 N. To I-44 east to Tulsa. Then I-49 N back to I-35. Will take more time but lots less stressful.

Here some directions we captured from a RV.Net post sometime ago to get around Dallas. We have never used them yet, but look good when looking at a map. Just reverse them for a northward travel.

Take I-35 South to Gainesville exit 497, for FM 51 South (on right), take all the way thru Weatherford, Texas. Just south of Weatherford (3 miles south of I-20), veer left on TX 171 towards Cleburne, Texas, take to US 67 towards Alvarado (follow signs as this is a strange exit) until you intersect I-35W South, go South towards Waco to junction US 77 South (on the South side of Waco), stay on 77 all the way to Sinton, Texas then left on TX 35 thru Gregory to Aransas Pass over the bridge to Port Aransasโ€ฆ550 miles and the only traffic is near Hillsboro to Waco. Easy drive and have experienced it several timesโ€ฆ

With the construction on the Ft. Worth side going through Dallas may be better. Just try to miss rush hour. This weekend I35W is down to one lane northbound, this is north of Loop 820.

My preference was to take Loop 820 and go thru Ft. Worth and up I35W. Less traffic than going thru Dallas.

I myself would take I-35. But the north end of 35 thru Ft.Worth is a mess, But it's not real bad if you just take it kinda slow, pay close attention to which lane to stay in.
