Blacking out the light???

OK headed back to AK next week. This year we are in our MH and the shower stall next to the bedroom has a skylight that kindly offers light whether we want it or not .

We've been trying to skull out a way to black out the skylight to make sure the BR remains dark during my required beauty recovery and rest hours.

We've been thinking maybe aluminum foil taped to the skylight from below, but not sure it will hold.

Any experiences, recommendations or ideas on turning the switch off on the sun in such situations???

(Cutting the skylight out with a chain saw and nailing surplus plywood over the hole has already been tendered as a suggestion and the DW rejected the suggestion- go figure??

Styrofoam insulation, cut to snug fit into place. Leave a little slot on one side so you can pull it out easily when you prefer to have the light. Easy to store, lightweight too.

This is also a good thing when camping in winter, to keep the cold out.

X2 on using Relectix insulation. I cut it with radiused corners to match the roof vents and installed some little self adhesive velcro round tabs on the corners to securely mount to the ceiling. Rolls of reflectix can be found at any hardware store pretty cheap and blocks out the light and provides insulation from the sun. It's never dark up here in the summer, mine stays on all summer over the bed.

A simple solution is to just cut down a heavy duty black plastic bag and tape it over the skylight.

For the bedroom windows we bought some heavy black cloth and sewed an opening at the top to shirr onto a spring-tension rod. They were very easy to snap out during the day and in at night. Not pretty but then, you're sleeping.

We, too, need it very dark in order to sleep. Good luck!

Only one answer...Relectix insulation....type " Reflectix " into the search bar and you will get 167 hits....I have been using the stuff in my shower skylite and windows while in Arizona for years......just cut a bit oversize and push into place....take it in & out as often as you want...if it gets too beat up to stay in place, cheap to get new stuff and replace....cut it with scissors or exacto knife.......

I used some sheet aluminum. Installed some clips so it would be removable. It has not been removed in five years. Not sure why I have a skylight.

We put four tiny eye hooks in the trim and tied fishing line in a criss cross fashion to hold our home made foam cushion up there. Not too ugly and it worked

We have already turned the corner on the daylight. The days are getting shorter.
Up here I have more trouble with the camping noise of other campers than the daylight.

I can't believe all the people that want to block off light. Myself, I would have a giant moon roof over the bed if it wasn't for the heat build-up during sunny days. I even searched for clear plastic vent domes, to no avail. Daytime activities sees to it that I sleep well at night, light or no light.

But all in all, what ever it takes to make us all Happy Campers!

LOL --Gotta have MY beauty rest---- and that skylight I think was developed by the Defense Department as a Laser Star War project that they put in our MH. Nice of them to put it next to the boudoir- the one place that should be dark in the MH.

That dad blamed thing is bright! I believe it makes light and has a nuke plant tied to it somewhere!

Momma -the DW -is now thinking foam plus velcro. Now there's a thought?

The darn thing is real odd shaped 26 1/2 by 15 1/2 with a large shaped indentation in the rear for some reason (round corners)

All great ideas and suggestions! Am pondering this. Keep 'em coming!

I am convinced now I can leave the chain saw in the garage and even better leave the used plywood covering hole in the floorboard of the 2nd hand pulpwood truck where it currently is being used. No need to pull that plywood out of the floorboard to cover a hole I would have cut in the roof of the MH to make it dark!

I'm leaning towards the foam rubber, but still think I need a way to secure it in a steamy shower. With the curvature of the skylight I wonder how its going to hold up in there.
