2. Have passports for everyone.
3. Leave all guns and ammunition at home.
4. Have rabies vaccinations for dogs/cats. Birds and reptiles require special considerations.
5. Research the Canadian and US Customs websites about what you can bring into each country.
My experience is that the Canadian officials will be friendlier at the border. For Americans, returning home is not fun.
