Trying to decide what route to take. I-90 or I-80 the way I routed miles are about the same. I-90 will have more tolls I understand that.

Trying to decide which route will have more in the way of overnight CG stops to choose from.

I like to travel about 350 miles a day give or take. I figure 3 days travel to get there.

If anyone has traveled either or both any good suggestions.

We will be leaving end of August and will be in Bar Harbor until after Labor Day.

I hear a lot of people like that park and Camden is a pretty area. We do go that way after Labor Day when the traffic is not so bad. It is a nice drive.

Do you mean Rt 3 to Rt 1?

I295 rejoins I95 at Augusta, then exit 113 is Rt 3 to Belfast then Rt 1 to Ellsworth.

The Rt 3 / Rt 1 section is a nice scenic ride and over the last few years Rt 3 has been mostly repaved and is good road.

Yes, we do take 295 to join route 1 near Brunswick. Route 1 goes along the coast through a number of scenic small towns including Bath, Wiscasset, Camden, etc. We like to spend a night Camden Hills State Park on the way to Acadia. We join route 3 at Ellworth.

Reminds me of a trip we took years ago, shortly after getting married, in an old Dodge Dart.

South Bend to Cleveland, stayed with relative

Cleveland to Ithaca, camped at a waterfall park near town.

Back roads across the Catskills, camped in a park overlooking the Hudson valley. black flies

to Boston, another relative

to Bar Harbor, hiked the park

Return was 1d to Conn, for a friend's wedding
1d to Youngstown Ohio
1d to South Bend.

Maybe the waterfall park outside Ithaca is Taughannock Falls SP; I've fond memories of it as well.

Tha last time I was on I-86 with a TT it was a washboard. Is it still like that?

It has been very largely repaired for a few years now and is much improved. There indeed used to be sections, particularly west of Corning, that were very rough.

If it were me, I would perhaps stop at Watkins Glen state park in New York (well worth an extra day's stay to walk through the Glen) and maybe Emerald Lake state park in Dorset, VT. The last day with that itinerary would be a tad on the long side.

Be aware that they removed all the toll booths from the Mass Pike and are doing EZPass/license plate tolling. EZPass users get a discount and the Hampton (NH) tolls and the Maine Pike both accept EZPass.

State College PA seems to be in your 350 mile range and we stayed at this place a couple of times, right off I-80.

The suggestion of taking I-80 to I-81 to I-84 is a good one, although I-81 between Harrisburg and Scranton has historically had a lot of construction. I prefer staying on I-80 and taking US209 up the Delaware Water Gap to I-84. Very scenic.

From State College, this place near Schenectady is quite nice, right on the Mohawk River/Erie Canal.

For minimal tolls try I80 to I81 to I84 to I90 (Mass Pike) to I495 to I95 into Maine. We usually get off I95 at Portland to I295 then route 1 to route 3.

Only tolls are on the short section of the Mass Pike and on I95 in New Hampshire and Maine.

Take I-90 east to the Massachusetts Turnpike, to I-495, to I-95 north, to I-295 north, to I-95 north to Bangor, then on to route 1 east, to route 3 east and your there. There are many campgrounds along the way. Enjoy Bar Harbor.

Yes that is one way I was looking at but any idea how much tolls are?
