Crescent City Ca. And the Redwoods.

We just finished our run down Route 101 from Port Angeles Wa to Crescent City Ca. We took 5 days down the Washington and Oregon Coast, stayed at some great campgrounds and saw some unbelievable sights. We just arrived at the Redwoods RV Resort in Crescent City. Going to stay here for a few days and take in the redwoods. Is the Redwoods Nat. Park a good place to take these trees in? Should we try the avenue of the giants? We will be using our 25 ft class c to tour with so that might limit us a bit. After this we're going to head across the state to Reno and pick up Route 50 east. Haven't really looked at that yet......

Newton Drury Parkway in Prairie Creek State Park is a great drive. If you can, spend a little time on the James Irvine Trail, which starts at HQ on Newton Drury.

As always great information. I'm going to use two days for this run. First day from here,Crescent City RV park to Eureka take our time and check things suggested. Day 2 Eureka to Westport Beach RV park on rt 1. We can checkout the Avenue of the Giants and take in a little on rt 1 in California before heading east on route 20 toward Reno to spend a family day.

We drove through both areas in our 25’ C and liked the Avenue of the Giants very much which runs parallel to 101 for about 30 miles. There are pulloffs where you can get out to take photos. Definitely go to the visitor center at Humboldt Redwoods SP - they have a good video with old newsreels about the original town of Weott that was wiped off the map by a big flood.

Go early to get a parking spot at Founders Grove - it has a very enjoyable easy trail through the enormous trees.

We stayed in Redcrest at Ancient Redwoods RV a couple of months ago, right on the Avenue. Nice spot with a popular gift shop in the office, nice wood carving section.

On the way south from Crescent City, plan a lunch stop at the famous Samoa Cookhouse. Come hungry.

Yes and yes. I live here in crescent City and there are some nice campgrounds. The best is Jedediah smith. Avenue of the Giants is nice for the scenery and elk but not close to restaurant or services.

We drove through part of the Jedediah Smith Redwoods State park in Crescent City. The road was terrible. So full of pot holes you couldn't take your foot off the brakes. It was nice scenery but a very narrow road.

Start with the Nat Parks visitor center in Crecent City itself. Then there's a state park unit just inland from CC. (US199)

Howland Hill road is a great introduction to the woods, but you might be too big for that.
