On I 10, from LA going W toward San Antonio with truck and trailer. What's the best route for dealing with Houston?

Thanks

So getting thru Houston was a piece of cake. Just stayed in my lane the whole time. Thanks.

We go straight thru on I-10 before/after rush hour. Pick a middle lane an drive straight through. We have been through that area on I-10 a half a dozen times and maybe we were just lucky but we have never encountered a problem. We do usually stop in Beaumont the night before so we hit Houston after rush hour is finished.

You'll probably think I'm crazy, but I'd go TX-105 from Beaumont over to Brenham, then TX-237 to US-77 to rejoin I-10. For me TX-105 is relaxing and enjoyable compared to the insanity of Houston.

I-10, always stay one lane from the right and cruise on through. Avoid 6-9am, 4-7pm if you can.

We spent 3 months in Houston in 2011, for cancer treatment @ MD Anderson. The best driving times during daylight hours are 10-2, we ALWAYS tried to be back at the RV park on South Main and Hiram Clark Rd by 2:45 or it got bad, really, really bad. We always travel through on I-10 and pickup US-59S downtown and try to be outbound before 1:00 when on our way to The Rio Grange Valley. Weekdays work, Sunday is the best, Saturdays are the worse.

I'm a vegetarian. Just kidding. That sounds good. The football game is in town. I guess we miss that traffic.

Go straight through on I-10. The Sam Houston Tollway is a long way around, and I-610 gets congested around all major junctions.

I've found 10 AM to 2 PM to be not bad, or 10 PM to about 4 AM. Companies in Houston have programs to extend working hour ranges to reduce traffic (a public policy thing) so people may start as early as 6 AM and get off at 2-3 PM, others start at 10 AM and might going home after 8. Reduces the intensity of the rush hour but greatly extends it. Then there are all the folks doing four ten hour days a week. But whatever the schedules, 10 AM to 2 PM almost everybody commuting to work that day will be at work, not on the road.

Been visiting Houston on business for 35 years, watching the traffic mess grow and grow.

Stop off at Weimer on the west side of Houston and pull into the Texas Burger parking lot and get one of their hamburgers. Best hamburger in Texas. Parking lot handles 18 wheelers with ease.

Ok. We hear you. We will spend Sat night approaching Houston and hopefully zip thru Sunday morning.

Sadly we saw an overturned car on I 10 eastbound near Baton Rouge and rush hour traffic was backed up for miles.

Thanks

For a big rig it's best to run about 5 mph slower than the rest of the traffic. Those wonderful Houston drivers will keep cutting in front of you and maybe even slamming on their brakes so it help keep a cushion in front of you.

and if that is the stretch I am thinking about, most of those lanes have painted arrows/I numbers, etc. on them which you can almost read at 55mph.

Just take a rest stop before entering Houston, relax, fill up the vehicle with gas though (LOL). Try to avoid the early morning and evening rush hour. Houston has lots of traffic and there is no way around it. A lot of it is due to rubber necking around wrecks and such. Grin and bear I say. Just take your time and let them cut in front of you because they will ๐Ÿ™‚ So far (knock on wood) I've had no problem driving (accident free) with my class A thru it. If you need to once you get through Houston, pull over and just let it all out. Whew, but their traffic is heavy. WOW. I10 is the best route out though.

The advice is correct, just stay on I-10.

We have major accidents all the time. It's a lottery if you'll be impacted, but not enough to worry about. Just enjoy what little scenery there is.

Yep straight through on I-10.

Most days if you can get there just before noon its a little easier.

Going east or west we try to get there about 11:00 A.M.
