I'm not kidding, on the dash or front panel.

Use of screens on the front panel of the vehicle that are not part of the original design of the unit, mobile devices , computers , PDAs , radios , tablets , and global positioning systems are prohibited. Fines of 65-323 peso's .

"Cat Scan" - good one!

I guess I have a problem as I use my GPS as my speedometer. The dash on my Ford motorhome is configured so that the steering wheel impairs my view of the dash speedometer so I have gotten used to using the GPS where all I have to do is glance up beside the rear view mirror where it is mounted on the windshield. Much safer than leaning over the wheel to see the dash.

Is that a cat scan so you don't bring anything illegal in?

Well, I used my ipad min all thru the US and Mexico but not been into Jalisco yet...thanks for the heads up.
The navfree ipad app for Mexico is quite good. Similarly, the Co-pilot GPS app for the US is excellent with voice guidance. Both work without wifi or sim as long as you have the cellular ipad.
The screen is much easier to read and the intersection lane screens invaluable. It can be programmed for an rv so that ETA times are realistic and the routing also.

it is mostly about obstruction, things hanging from rear view mirror, radar detectors, gps, sirius radio, dancing dolls, and people who allow their pets on the dash......seen it.
It becomes very hard to see out the the windshield, unsafe and a distraction.
Most vehicles have radios/CD players, built into the dash, those can be distractions.

Yes, most likely - lots of distractions nowadays.
Back in the sixties in California, some people hung do-dads from the rear view mirror.
It got so crazy (some cars looked like entire trash can contents were hanging above the dash) that an ordinance was passed making that sort of thing illegal due to the obstructions.

I even took my gauge cluster out so I would not be distracted. Lol.

I just looked at the English version of the laws : Guadalajara paper
and it doesn't seem that far out. Children must be in the back seat, infants in car seats, motorcycle helmets, etc. I think this could save a few lives. I'm going to set up the GPS so only the wife can see it and my dash cam is a passive thing anyway. This could maybe moderate your liability if another driver is distracted and involves you in an accident. RYV
Edited for bad spelling !

Trouble is out of sight means out of sight to satellites unless you have an external antenna hooked up.

If you need your GPS I would suggest placing it out of sight and "listening" to the GPS lady give driving instructions.
Just a thought.

NEWEST

I think maybe I learned something in this thread. NEWEST? Never saw it. Never used it. Found it. Tried it. Seems it shows you every thread in every forum โ€“ at least the ones that just started. Then you find every post in each of those threads in each of those forums. Has to be mind boggling. I just clicked on Newest and found at least 3 full pages of threads posted today โ€“ 11-13-13 โ€“ could be more??

I just go up to the right where it says Jump To Forum and click to get the drop down and then click to go to any forum I might be interested in โ€“ many are of no interest โ€“ and some I donโ€™t even know what they are.

Above that box is another area that says My Forums where you can set the parameters you might want to appear showing the forums of interest to you personally. This way you can avoid all those of little or no interest. This would help those with no interest in forums such as those about places like Mexico from stumbling into places you would really rather not be. Seems easy enough to do.

In the years I have visited this forum โ€“ as well as a number of other forums โ€“ I have never had the time to look at all the threads even under those topics that might be of interest. I have no idea how anyone has to time to peruse all the information that can be found on the internet these days. I certainly donโ€™t have the time for it.

So here is some of what I found. There are a bunch of forums and sub-forum categories. So say you are interested in CLASS A MOTORHOMES โ€“ you would then see these categoriesโ€ฆโ€ฆ.or sub-forumsโ€ฆ..

Categories: All, General Topics, Restoration & Vintage RVs, Projects & Upgrades, Maintenance Issues & Tips, Travels & Favorite Places, Safety Issues & Recalls, Conversion Buses

Then all the threads in each of those categories โ€“ and then all the posts in each of those threads. So clicking on NEWEST gives you all of this and more. There are ways to limit you exposure to only the topics of interest to you. Roam around the website and you will find moreโ€ฆโ€ฆAnyone can really do just about anything they want โ€“ visit all or just visit one at a time โ€“ totally up to you.
