Thinking of taking my 34' fifth wheel over this route. I have driven it years ago in just a vehicle and can't really remember just how tough it is. Any body done this recently and what do you think? For the record, I am a very experienced mountain driver.

Nice drive, just beware of the bicyclers. It's a popular road for bikers and there's not much shoulder for them throughout most of the route. I nearly nailed a couple of them the last time we were on it, and I was taking it real easy. It was a slight incline, 30 mph curve. I came upon them at the very same time a trucker met me on the curve. They had nowhere to go, and all I could do was slam on the brakes. I had a birthday cake, plates and silverware all over the floor of the camper. (It HAD been on the rear counter.)

One of our favorite highways, been driving it for 50 years. take your time and pull over on the big pullouts and walk around; you will enjoy the great Lochsa and Clearwater Rivers on the Idaho side. Stop at DeVoto Memorial Cedar Grove and the USFS Visitor Center at the pass.

It's a beautiful drive! You may get stuck behind a semi or maybe just a slow driver so plan on taking your time and enjoy the scenery.

Several miles after leaving Lolo, you will see a sign on the right side of the road for the Lumber Jack Saloon. It is back a good gravel road about a mile. A real neat place. Plenty of parking room.

That is such a pretty drive, no matter what time of year. It is particularly pretty in fall:

It is not that bad. There is a good down hill coming off the pass. Watch your speed and down shift. Snakes down pretty good, no major hair pins. Great scenery!

When someone tells you to buy the same rig they own, listen, they might be right. When they tell you to buy a different rig then they own, really pay attention, they probably know something you don't.
