I-5 thru Portland

Heading north today up I-5 from Newport to the Olympic Peninsula. Google routes me through Portland on I-5 but my RV GPS app routes me around Portland on I-205. Is there a low bridge or some other RV limitation on I-5 I should know about? The bridge over the Columbia? Thanks.

Hope your drive went well up 205. 🙂

I would assume you went up 101 out of Shelton, this part of our Olympia, Tacoma, Seattle, Everett bypass.

:B That's not far off the truth. The first time I drove through Portland was with a long box crew cab and 35'flat deck trailer. I never gave 205 any thought, didn't do that again.

Having driven through Portland once in the pouring rain at rush hour, I would consider Boise Idaho a viable alternative.
Take the 205.

If it's a work day then take 205 - if it's a weekend and you want to view the river/Portland then consider staying on I-5.

Driven both. Unless you're stopping in downtown Portland take the 205. The 205 bridge over the Columbia is 4 lanes with a shoulder. The I-5 bridge is 3 lanes with no shoulder.

205 is what you could call the Portland by-pass. we use it.

No low bridges, Portland is just tough to drive through, traffic, lane changes, narrow lanes, I would take 205, newer freeway, about the same to a little quicker, as far as time. Much less stressful
