We will be going to Goshen for the Coachmen rally in a couple of weeks. I have been going back and forth as to the route to take. Fastest is up I-55 to I-90 and across. This would put me just south of Chicago. We would probably be going through about 3-4 pm on a Friday. Is that a no-no?

Or I have considered taking I-72 to I-57 to Hwy 24 across and then working my way north.

Any feedback would be appreciated. Oh and we will be driving almost all of it in one day. Going to drive about 140 miles Thursday after work then the rest on a Friday.

Thanks, John

When in Goshen track down Venturi Pizza for the best pizza of you life.

Camperforlife, we went to Venturi Pizza tonight for dinner. Had a group of 25 people. Most everyone thought it was very good pizza. Different than Pizza Hut, but very good. Thank you so much for recommending it. We will go again the next time we come to Goshen. Thanks again, John

Thanks all, was leaning to taking 25 out of Logansport to 15 to Goshen. After the last two posts, I am thinking stay on 24 to 31 to 6 etc.

Wife and I can hardly wait!!! So excited, 4 more days. Will be leaving Thursday after work, drive a couple of hours, stop overnight at Long Branch State Park. Wife wants to get another stamp in her Missouri State Park 100th Anniversary book anyway. That will leave us around 460 miles or so for Friday. Woohoo!!!!

Tatest, I agree about not going through downtown Logansport. We did one time and the time it took to make those corners and through the residential area was more than what it takes to do the US24 bypass. Also, I didn't think the route through town was that well marked. We made it through OK but there was a couple of tense moments when we thought we had taken the wrong turn.

I regularly take I-35 out of KC, across US-36 to Hannibal, I-72 to Springfield, I-57 to US-24. Once on 24, it depends on my destination.

For Western Michigan I'd usually go up toward Michigan City, using either I-94 or the Indiana Toll Road, depending on what I've learned about construction projects, to an artery going to my destination (whether Kalamazoo, Battle Creek, Lansing, etc). For Elkhart area, I'll take US-24 to US-31, then across US-20 to Elkhart, Shipshewana, Middlebury or LaGrange, or across US-6 to Nappanee or Wakarusa; US-6 gets you closest to Goshen, I suggest SR-19 north out of Nappanee then SR-119 into Goshen.

SR-25 north from Logansport to US-31 at Rochester shaves off a few miles, but I don't usually take the RV through the center of Logansport, and even with just the car getting bogged down in traffic can cost more time than it takes to get on the US-24 bypass and drive the extra miles.

The only real bottlenecks are Monticello (during tourist season and on market days) and Logansport (should you not bypass it). Watseka has built up considerably in the past 15 years, but I am usually through it in about 12 minutes, but wrong time on the wrong day can make that as much as 20 minutes.

I just came thru 24 last week coming to Mi. I took 421 up to Michigan City from 24. 24 is a good road. Go thru some small towns, but no problem. You can hit 80/90 toll road just south of Michigan City. I stayed a night at Michigan City. They did have a road closure from La Cross north, but they might be done with that now. They had a detour marked.

The other option is I70 to I465 West around Indy to 31 North. 31 is now mostly 4 lane and bypasses Kokomo completely. This route is probably the fastest, but the I57 to 24 to 31 route is good too. Do not take 55 to 80.

We have been to Goshen several times and we take your second route, almost. We take US36 across Missouri, I72 and I57 across Illinois, then US 24 across to US 31, north to US 6, east on US 6, then IN 15 into Goshen. We have taken 421 north from US 24 but find the roads to be a little better by taking 31. There is no really straight forward way to get to Goshen if you want to avoid the Chicago area. And we definitely want to avoid that area.
As far as driving it in one day it is doable if you knock off a few miles that first evening. We drive from about 100 miles southwest of KC to just north of Champaign/Urbana the first day and into Goshen the second.

Bingo a WINNER (JMHO)- someone who would do what I would consider the easiest way.

That first night jump will make it really easy - RT 36 is a really good road - Avoids the entire Chicago AREA - we used to take this route to and From the Plant in Wakarusa with our Travel Supreme, always enjoyed the two lane roads in the area.

Adds a few miles but not really any time or uncertainty due to traffic.

I live in the 57/80/65 triangle. You do not want any part of this area right now. Construction is causing a mess. Stay south of 80 as long as you can. I'd suggest 72 across to 57 to US 24 into Indiana, then take US 421 north to 80. It is a longer milage route but you'll not be going 15 mph in many places!
Good luck!

Much better choice.

US 6 and 30 are not bad for that last leg either.

I94 through Indiana is a construction nightmare now. I drive it everyday. I've encountered 2 1/2 hrs travel times for a 47 mile trip.
