Getting excited about the first trip south in about 5 years. With the aging of The Church Book, I'm not seeing an alternative to a locator of CGs. Rvparkreviews.com has a pretty good Mexico section but its dated too (not their fault...we RV'ers need to provide input).

What sources are good for planning CG stops? We want to explore, not stay in one CG. Thanks in advance.

Belgique: Here is your Golden opportunity. Start a website with a searchable database. The Churches not doing Mexico is a sign of the times. Not enough travelers. RV travel in Mexico will never recover.

I skimmed the entries on the Churches website and found a few from about a year ago - none more recent. But it is up to us, the travelers, to send in the updates. No one person can cover the entire country. Everyone needs to provide new information to any of our favorite sources of information.

I did look at the "On The Road In" website and have for many years. They provide a great service and we have bought many of their road logs. But much of their information is also way out of date.

There needs to be central sources of information that can be easily searched to find the latest info. Though this is a great forum there is no way to search for information about specific locations. There are ways to search of course but it would still be very difficult to find specifics. Which is why I suggest sending info to all possible sources of info - which would primarily be the Church Rolling Homes website and Bill & Dot Bells On The Road. Then we can go to those website to try to find recent reports. But there can be no reports if all of us to not participate with what we know.

ALmalibre re "It is an awful feeling to drive all day over questionable roads etc to arrive at a place and find it closed or gone completely".

Amen. I'm adventurous and try not to plan much. I do a general plan and adjust based on conversation's as we travel. That said, a general idea of what's avail is nice to know. Here is great if I search properly. I like the area layout of "On The Road". If folks making the trek soon would update On The Road, that would be great.

BTW..the same goes for border crossings. But I'll bug Chris for info since we're entering in his neck of the woods.

I think this site is about the best to get up to date information. It is an awful feeling to drive all day over questionable roads etc to arrive at a place and find it closed or gone completely.

I try to update campgrounds here when I stay at them to help keep this board useful.

I didn't realize the Church's were still updating on their page. I saw the top listing was 2012 and thought that was it. Pretty good of them considering how long ago the book was published.

The folks behind "On the Road In" do a good job too, it is so difficult to keep all these things up to date...especially for no compensation.

You can get updates to the Church book on their website . . .

http://www.rollinghomes.com/madds3.htm

But the updates depend on people out and about contacting them with what we learn as we go. If Pozo is closed for a fact you can email the Churches and they will post it in their updates so everyone will know. The latest info now depends on us to keep letting everyone know what we learn in our travels. Send the info to the Churches and then cross-reference to the page number in their last book. Works for us.

As I was researching the Baja earlier this year I found that most of the web sites are badly out of date as is the Church book. In an email to the Churches asking if they planned to update the book I got a reserved "No". All of the travel books (LP, Moon, Fodors, etc) for the Baja are out of date. Although the Moon book does list RV parks.

I think the best thing to do is just GO and see what is there. I had the best luck by contacting a few parks directly and looking at their web sites.

iOverland.com has a database of camping site. It is mostly oriented towards intrepid overlanders in a variety of vehicles rather than staid motorhomers in Class As but it does include quite a few regular RV parks as well.

Is "On The Road In" website kept up to date?

(For example, it has El Pozo park in Patzcuaro still listed, which is closed, and does not mention Rancho la Mesa, where I am staying right now)

Thanks Chris...I follow them on FB but for some dumb reason I never checked their web page. Let me scope that out. Actually the best source will be when we ply you folks with adult beverages for info on our arrival in MX!

On Edit: Yep, that looks like what I had in mind. Don't know how I missed that before. Thanks!

I don't know if you've checked On The Road In.

They also have a FB page that can be good for asking questions although it appears there are more questions from ex-pats or wannbee ex-pats. Still worth joining for road info, etc.
