I live in Hebo, OR and travel Hwy 22 a lot. Whether to take Hwy 18 or Hwy 22 depends on which way you are headed on Hwy 101. If going South take hwy 18, North take Hwy 22.

Hwy 22, as already said, is a winding road but very doable. It is a commerce highway so you will have log trucks, hay trucks, and freight trucks on the road too.

Bicycles are only an issue in May when they have the Reach the Beach fund raiser which takes the riders from Portland to Pacific City.

I use Hwy 22 to travel from Hebo to Woodburn Dragstrip in my 40 ft. motorhome towing my 24 ft enclosed trailer.

Decent road, is twisty, some slow areas. But, depending on time of year and on weekends, you'll probably run into (sometimes literally!!) spandex clad 2 wheelers either having the road to themselves or a sponsored race. You'll usually find them 2 or 3 abreast just as you come out of a sharp corner!! Be ready!!!

I love Hwy 22 as its our go to road to the coast when we are out that way. Its twisty as it follows the river but there are no steep grades and little traffic and the scenery is really nice.

22 from Valley Junction to 101 is a decent road, but with 35 turns in that short stretch really does not make it a good road for RVs.
Since it appears your from CA I suspect your heading south on 101? If so, there really is nothing between Hebo ans Lincoln City. Of your heading north, I would suggest north on I5 to I405 to 26 and take the Tillamook cut off back to the coast

My preference is taking 18 all the way to 101, I think it is faster. I took 22 to 130 to get to Pacific City once, pretty road, but slow, some one lane bridges. Had to listen to the family complain most of the way.
