Overnight location - 1/2 way to FL from MA

TRIP Update; Just got home from a GREAT trip. Thanks to all who replied to my original request. Took 301 both ways and it was well worth it to get around DC area. Purchased the "RVovernight" app to find places to stay. Expensive for an APP but it made me feel a lot better about finding places. Stayed at Walmart on the way down in NC and one Crackerbarrel on the way home. Both quiet and well lit/safe. Thanks to the app. Best news of all - we rushed to get back to MA before the ice storm and made it but it was very heavy rain for 14 hours of driving. NO Water LEAKs. checked real good when we got home.
Had to change one coil pack and spark plug in cyn. #6 because of rough idle and engine stumble (2003 ford v10). Thanks again to all ...

Hi Dave. LOL at your post about stops on the way to FL. We live in Northern Virginia & make 4 stops on the way to Fort Pierce! Started with 3, now 4....next year, maybe 5. That’s what retirement is all about...no need to rush.

Carolina Crossroads in Roanoke NC, just before the VA border. They have one row right by the office for late arrivals and overnighters. The office closes promptly at 5pm, but they leave the paperwork out for you. Close to I-95 and easy access.

I like to frequent the local Campgrounds when in travel, ever since the Government changed all of the commercial Drivers Hours Of Service, and placed mandatory Electronic Logging Devices in all Commercial vehicles going farther than 110 miles as the crow flies, the truck stops have been full to the gills with professionals trying to get their down time.

We have a choice and can go those extra few miles and check into a campground, they do not have that luxury..

Second the Americamp recommendation. Very easy on-off from I 95 (but very little road noise). Pull thrus are kept for overnighters. Another option in northern NC (Exit 171 I think) near Roanoke Rapids, NC is RV Resorts at Carolina Crossroads. Another one that's easy on/off with little road noise. They have a special, reduced rate for overnighters. We've used both several times. Near whatever you may need and easy-peezy! Another option in NC is off Exit 98 (can see it from I95) called RVacation Campground. Easiest of all to get to, never heard the interstate, and pull thru sites. Have stayed here too. We have found overnighting at Flying J type stops too noisy for us. Like another who posted, we don't mind paying a few $ to support campgrounds.

OR.. You can help support the local economy and RV park. there is Americamps of Ashland about 10 minutes south of there.. right off 95.. easy in and out, long pull troughs..

Plenty of support inthe area, fuel, food, tires, whatever..

RT95 exit 104 just north of Richmond. Flying J on both north and south side. We prefer the southbound side.

We use 301 to get there avoiding Balt/Wash.

find a cracker barrel on your rt. makes for a nice evening meal and some rest.
