Roll Call Alaska 2013

Just thought I'd start a thread regarding who will be starting up to Alaska in 2013. It would be nice if we could share information so everyone has a memorable and safe trip.
We will be leaving around the end of May out of Las Vegas. We will be traveling with our 40' MH and towing our Equinox car. We are heading up with my husband's cousin and her husband and they have an airstream.
We have gone before but in 2005 so we are really looking forward again to the adventure. It is surely a trip of a lifetime and to do it more than once is a blessing. We are only on this earth for a short while.
Travel safe!

We're leaving from DE on May 20th. It'll be our 6th trip since 2006. The place is addicting. One of those was when we flew up for 2 weeks to see the Iditerod, so you may or may not count that. We'll head back around Sept. 1st.

Of course, y'all invited to overnight at our place 30 miles west of Whitehorse along the Alaska Highway. Can't offer any services, other than good hiking & scenery and numerous tall tales.

If you're here in August, you will likely see the black bears strolling by too. Berry picking is usually pretty good this time of year too.

If you're here in October, you'll need to carefully avoid the elk while driving up our driveway. Darn things didn't want me to get home earlier this week!

Did it in 2005 and 2009. In 2013 will be leaving from Texas either the 6th or 7th of May. Need to be in Saskatoon, SK by the 16th of May for a 2 week visit with the daughter and family. Will be in Chicken, AK on the 13th of June for Chicken Stock 2013 that will be held on 14 & 15 June.

Then who knows where we will be Will probably do July 4th in Seward again to watch the mountain race. Hope they get the Moose Drop Festival back on track in Talkeetna for 2013.

We have a black 40' Holiday Rambler MH with our names, SUE & LONNIE, on the windshield. Honk if you meet us; stop in and say Hi if we are parked.

We are absolutely committed to Alaska in 2013....Having fun now in the "thinking about the planning" stage.....Plan to leave the San Diego area early June and take a leisurely trip to Fairbanks....Then take the Jeep up the Haul Rd and take a tour of the oilfields, etc.....Then fly home from Fairbanks for a month or so to take care of things, fly back and a leisurely trip home around August...

Have done the Ak trip 2x my motorcycle, once in 04 and once in 08....Looking fwd to a more civilized way this time..!!

Alaska is addicting....!!

We will be making our second driving trip to Alaska next year. We will depart in early June, 2013. Our other driving trip was in 2009. I have already started planning our route. We will try to stay in different rv parks and towns than we did in 2009.

We hope to make a trip up there in 2013, may do the fly up as we have done twice before. It is a neat place to see, but our main goal is to see our 3 granddaughters & their Mom & Dad.

We flew up to Fairbanks in 2010 in late Sept (to see our new granddaughter who was born in Sept) & flew back in early Oct.

On the way from the airport, we saw a little of the Northern Lights (figured we'd see more later on, but didn't, clouds, etc). It was not too bad (cold wise) in Sept. Hard on going the SouthWest Temps to Alaska Temps. We did a day trip to Denali & were able to drive a ways into the park normally only buses are allowed, but not too too far. Didn't have snow until in Oct, just before we flew back home.

Most of the "town" by Denali was closed already when we went. We drove up to the start of the Dawson Hwy, neat drive, only a little snow.

My Son's Photo of Northern Lights on a Friday night in March 2012 on the way to Summit Lake.

His Lance TC on 'Big Blue' at the campsite at Summit Lake (Site of Arctic Man.

He lives south of Fairbanks.

We didn't make it up to see our Alaska kidos this year, didn't want to go in Sept or Oct & the summer season was booked for them. Our loss.

All Denali Nat'l Park Late Sept. Last photo: Only view of Denali (Mount McKinley) we had while in the Park. It was late in the season, they were allowing vehicles to drive into the park (normally only the tour buses allowed). At least we believe it was Denali.
