Roll Call Alaska 2013

Just thought I'd start a thread regarding who will be starting up to Alaska in 2013. It would be nice if we could share information so everyone has a memorable and safe trip.
We will be leaving around the end of May out of Las Vegas. We will be traveling with our 40' MH and towing our Equinox car. We are heading up with my husband's cousin and her husband and they have an airstream.
We have gone before but in 2005 so we are really looking forward again to the adventure. It is surely a trip of a lifetime and to do it more than once is a blessing. We are only on this earth for a short while.
Travel safe!

BTW The above routing is about 7,360 miles from the Canadian border crossing and return. I'm planning on $6/gal for diesel and hoping it's not over that amount.

The Journey to Alaska

We focus on Alaska but look at this prespective of where we spend our driving time. It's all about the beautiful areas of Canada to and from Alaska!

This is my first routing and you're welcome to a copy. Street and Trips 2013 Routing

Your route may vary but it is a few miles from the Canadian border to the Alaska border. Now if you're starting from FL well ...

Wow...there are getting to be so many good posts I can't keep up!!

Here is a question that prob. should go in some other forum, but I am gonna try it here first!! We are not full-timers, and have never spent this long just traveling around. What do we do with the snail mail?? When we go to Jekyll Is. for 2 months, we just have it forwarded to the post office there, but not sure what to do for a 3 mo. trip when not many days will be spent at the same place, and we are not sure we want to commit to where we will be when. How 'bout some tips from the experienced among you??

Also, if we take our current trailer, it has only one battery and a relatively small water tank (our last one was larger) Will there be some times we will want to dry camp, or are there plenty of campgrounds with hookups so it isn't an issue??? Already planning to add a larger diesel tank to pick-em-up, since for some reason, GMC in its wisdom only puts 22 gal on as standard. What else do we need to think about??

That sign is real cool. I hi-lited the words in hot pink to make it stand out more and of course put my screen name in. Thank you very much CA Traveler. We can all use this and just print a couple of them for different windows.

Update: I've saved the Roll Call sign as a Word 2003 doc which may help to download it. It does have the rv.net logo graphic.

Thanks so much for replying, Janet. This really helps and I think we'll want to stay longer on the Kenai. I am getting so excited, Thanks so much! How much time do we need to allow for Fairbanks? Also, does the tour book have any of the air trips to Prudhoe and the arctic included. I looked at the website but couldn't get a good sense of what is in there, will look again. On further thought, I'll call. Wow, lots to do!!! Thanks again,
Susan

PS: add the Bakers, am trying to get them to join the site! Hope we meet on the road!

I don't know if the coupon book has one for the Arctic Circle or not. I haven't received my book yet. Maybe someone else here has. I would be interested to know also.
Fairbanks - Depends what you like to do. We have been before but our friends have not so we are going to play tourist with them. Here are some suggestions;
Riverboat Discovery - Riverboat
Arctic Circle - Arctic Circle
Knotty Shop - Knotty Shop
Pioneer Park- Pioneer Park
Santaland -Santa Claus

This is just a few of the things we enjoy in Fairbanks area.

We plan to do the Counter-clockwise route also. I want to drive the toad up the haul road, we missed it last time. We will probably spend a considerable amount of time in the Mat-su area. We stayed at a campground on Montana Creek last trip and did a lot of fishing, and will probably do the same this year before heading for Kenai. I doubt we will spend any real time in Anchorage.

Hjudge49, Do you know the name of the campground on Montana Creek? The couple we are traveling with is a big fisherman so we might look into it. Also will the camp support a 40' MH?
Thanks,
Janet

We are planning to do a counter-clockwise direction - Tok,Delta Junction, Fairbanks, Denali, Mat-su, Anchorage, Soldotna, Homer, Seward, Glennallen , Valdez (and places in-between).Up the Alaska Hwy and then down the Cassier Hwy to Hyder (Hyder Bears and White Bus for lunch). This worked for us last time so if it's not broken don't fix it.
