Looking for the best route pulling the FW. Google map comes up with a couple routes through the Chattahoochee NF as opposed to going out to I-75 to Atlanta. I do like 2ndary highways but don't know about through the mountains if that's what these routes are.

Padlin. We have towed this route from Farner TN to Gaineville many, many times with our 25 foot TT. TN 68 from Tellico Plains to Farner is the worst as it is curvy with some elevation right outside Tellico and again when you cross the Hiwassee River. It is only 25 miles though and the road surface is good. Our summer home is 5 miles from TN 68 just before you get to Farner (but in NC). We leave our TT in Farner because we cannot tow it to our house. I am glad you could track it on google. lizzie

Thanks Lizzie, google map follows the route okay when you punch it in town by town.

This is an okay route with a small trailer in tow, right?

Yep. 68 was a fun road to ride the motorcycle on when I did it a few years ago. Take it slow and pay attention to the curve ahead signs.

You can't get there...OK, the above will and it's not the bad. 68 will be the most interesting and if the inside of the curve has extra pavement. slow down as it's going to be a 25mph one.
This post is my opinion (free advice). It is not intended to influence anyone's judgment nor do I advocate anyone do what I propose.

OK. This is going to be mind-boggling but our summer home is 20 miles from Tellico Plains and we have been doing this for years. From Tellico Plains go south on TN 68 through Farner, Ducktown, and Copperhill. Turn right on GA 5 and continue to Blue Ridge. Stay right on GA 5(becomes 575) to just north of Ellijay. Turn left (west) on to GA 52. Continue on this road until it splits, with 52 going to Amicacola Falls and the right fork (181?)goes to Dawsonville. Follow the right fork to Dawsonville and continue south, cross GA 400 and continue to Gainesville. When you get to Gainesville, get on US 129 and go to Athens. This is what locals refer to as the "Apple Valley" route. It has rolling hills but no steep grades and sufficient passing lanes to keep you sane. lizzie
