Traveling in Wyoming

I am getting a late start today due to TV breakdown and will be trying to get as far as I can tonite. Wyoming roads have nice turnouts every few miles which are nice and also quite a few rest areas. My question is - does anyone know if the law there allows someone to overnite there? If I really play out what are my options. I will ve going straight up I25 to Douglas and then east to Gillette. You are probably there by now,but if you have a chance stop at the visiters center on I25 on MM 4 I believe.
one of the best I have come across.And yes you can rest overnite just don't camp

Often, even when they have signs saying no camping, they will allow folks to overnight for a few hours.

Just north off I-80 (not far at all) in Cheyenne, WY: There is a Rest Area/Welcome Center by the a Flying J at Exit 7 (I-25). Very nice place with room for parking & to overnight (rest) for 8 hours. Never overnighted there, but have stopped at it. Wyoming DOT Rest Areas

It is a right turn after crossing the interstate (McDs on this side as well). Left turn for Flying J. It is on a ridge or hill overlooking the country beyond. It is set away from the hustle & bustle of the truck stop & McDs.

Overnighting Sites & Sights in the Douglas & Wheatland Area. Includes Guernsey & Fort Laramie Area.

Guernsey State Park ------- Fort Laramie National Historic Site ------ Oregon Trail Ruts and Register Cliff

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I would only need a few hours to rest up but I have to open slide to get at fridge. Wouldn't have to be for long though.

In 40 yrs of overnighting in rest ares I have never been questioned or asked to move on . Imagine the liability of the police department who forced a sleepy and fatigued driver back on the interstate . The is NO legal definition of what constitutes overnighting . Is three hours to much or maybe 6 hours , or seven , et al !

we have stayed overnight at several of the WY rest stops many times, with no problems. there is a nice one at Chugwater WY off I 25 and another nice one, further up, at the junction of I 25 and highway 18.
But if you're talking about a shallow, short pull off, I don't think that would be safe or permitted. You might come across one of those highway gravel supply places that is big and you can get off the highway. A cop probably wouldn't hassle you over that.
most little towns are safe enough to just pull over and park for the night.

There is free overnight camping at the city park in Douglas. It's on the river. Nice restrooms with showers. the Police monitor at night. Have stopped there many times.

I'm pretty sure WY doesn't allow overnighting but that wouldn't preclude you from stopping for a few hours rest.After all it is a rest stop.

The WalMart in Gillette WY is the one and only WalMart that we have done an overnight in our RV. That was several years ago, so their rules may have changed.

There is a big difference between resting for a few hours and setting up a campsite by putting out the slides and table and chairs or pitching a tent on the grass.

When you get to Cheyenne, there is a rest area and WDOT office in the NW corner of intersection of I-25 & I-80. Stop in there and ask them for the straight scoop.

Most rest areas I have seen in WY have signs that say no over night camping.
