A stop off I10 not to miss

We have just come back from Rusty's RV Ranch just North of Rodeo NM and only 23 miles from I 10. The sites are good sized and level and the facilities are exceptionally clean. The staff wonderful. However those are not the reasons that if you have the chance to spend at least 2 nights you should.
You need to experience sitting out at night looking at the sky in a dark sky area. The night sky with no light pollution and the silence can not be described only experienced.
If you find your self in New Mexico 5 miles East of Arizona on I 10 do your self a huge favor and experience this for your self.

We stayed there a couple of weeks ago, during a warm spell. We used both air conditioners in the day. Good sites with great views (lake side of the road). May go back, but in February time frame. This month, our camp site will be at 6300'.

Nice place if your a Bass fisherman. A whole lot hotter, better not plan a summer trip there, JMO.

They replied to me after I wrote in reguards to OHV riding right out of the campground. It sounds like you have to ride on the shoulders and hwy a ways to get to the mountains. They said from Portal into the mnts. was real nice. Needless to say it sounds like if you want to explore the Chiricahua Mts. you'd have to trailer you OHV to them. Looks like it's pretty open to the wind too. Not putting it down but there things for us to look at for what we like to do.

Double ditto. If you're a telescopic enthusiast take your scope for the night sky.

Rusty's RV Ranch gets great reviews...

"Rusty's RV Ranch is located in New Mexico, but virtually on the border with Arizona. It is an exceptionally unusual park, with very large sites averaging a quarter acre each. Although there are side-by-side hookups, they've been designed in such a way that you will have no sense of another RV being anywhere close to you. Extremely pet friendly, and with free WiFi for short term guests, this is a fabulous place for a "home base" while visiting the Chiricahua mountains. Be sure to see the "towns" of Portal and Paradise. This is truly the land of the starry nights, owing to it reputation as one of the top six places in the country for astronomy buffs. Full hookups, fabulous scenery, and friendly folks. It's a bit out of the way for most "tourist routes", but well worth venturing out to this part of the country. (01/09)"

My few somewhat recent trips down West I10 along the close border areas Personal Safety is a hugh thing now with all of the foot traffic coming across the border. In past trips we was always doing the pull offs and catching a few hours sleep under a tree somewhere ... Wouldn't think of doing any of that in these times...

Being so close to the border however I would always keep a watchful eye on my surroundings. Common sense rules... Its a darn shame too as things are so beautiful in the West Texas, New Mexico and Arizona southwest desert areas.

Most of my working days since the 1960s were spent from North Texas to Phoenix AZ making the Interstate and back roads trips.

Thanks for the tip....will keep it in mind. After looking at there web site I saved to favorites. Really appeals to us, will make it a point to visit, there high enough that temps aren't bad, looks like a good time to visit is now, and reasonable prices. Didn't see much about OHV riding, do you have any info on that?
