Another trip to Lost Dutchman SP in Apache junction Arizona

Just returned from another visit to Lost Dutchman SP. The weather was gorgeous and though the park is full of snowbirds (always make reservations at least through the end of April), they have added a number of additional sites with more under construction.

The Arizona State Parks Service is doing their "Once every 5 year" surveys. Completing the 6 page, very detailed questionnaire gets you a free night of camping (my bride and I each did one making our weekend or the next one essentially free), and includes a shot at winning a new I Pad. It was nice to be able to have our input taken on what we liked/disliked etc., and what we would like to see for the future. After passing out the survey the Ranger just asked us to fill it out and hang it from the post at our site and they collected them the next day.

If you are going to be in the Apache junction area this SP is worth your time. Lots to see and do in the area and the amenities are outstanding. It is nice to live just 84 miles down the road as we visit several times a year. Oh well, we are off to Quartzite next week for the RV show and all of the attendant craziness. The temps were in the high 60's/low 70's and the nights cooled all the way down to 40. Just another brutal winter here in sunny Arizona. :B

A top favorite of ours.. we've volunteered there and have often returned just to stay. Beautiful drives from there - the Apache Trail, for one, and excellent hiking. We used to lead the Moon Hike on full moon nights. Awesome!

We too, really like this park. Went there last year in March and have reservations for site #50 this year. Canโ€™t wait to head out in about 6 weeks; spending 10 days first near Tucson. Not quite snow-birds, but weโ€™re working on it. Love that night picture of The Superstitions, it seems like I have taken a bazillion photos of the mountains, but none looked that good.

Desert Captain,

A nice write up on one of the nicest parks in Arizona.

We stayed in the non-services spot like yourselves last spring and I thought they were far superior to the serviced sites. For some reason, no one was running their gennies and it was so quiet. I guess like ourselves, many had solar.

Nice report in another thread on using a smaller inverter rather than a genny for all of your electronics, BTW.

"What is the site number? Did it have water/electric? Thank"

We were in the non electric section in #6 which is one of the better sites though it was sloped from back to front enough to require 2 yellow leg go blocks. :C

Heck, I came all the way from New York to spend a week there in early December, but filled out the survey when I was at Buckskin Mountain & they didn't offer anything!

Site 47 - Water & Electric:

I did manage to get a neat night photo of the Superstitions:

One of my favorite places from my Jeeps trail days back in the 60s - 70s...

Spent a many of weekends running up and down Apache trail with my trusty ole jeep pulling a util trailer with all my tent camping supplies.

Always try to visit this area everytime we visit the Phoenix area...
