Campgrounds Near DC Metro

I would like to spend a couple of days visiting Washington, D.C. on our way home from Florida. What is a good campground near a Metro station?

Unless I'm missing something, "Very close" means about twenty miles away, about a half hour drive. It would not be too practical if one were walking or cycling between the campground and the metro.

We stayed at Cherry Hill last year. It's a 20-25min bus ride to the Meteo and then another 25-30min to the National Mall. It wasn't too bad, but with two kids under 6 after a couple times in and out we ended up just taking an Uber the last couple days so we didn't have to deal with the Metro BS.

lots of work on metro rail system last year or so so you might want to check their website to see if the green line is down on the times you want to come

I agree. I like Pohick bay as well although they need to upgrade their electric. There is a low voltage issue with the 50 amp sites.
Like most of the other DC area CG's, Pohick bay is a bit cheaper than the tourist favorite Cherry Hill. If you are familiar with DC Pohick is a viable option. If you are not already familiar with the area, Cherry Hill is a better, more centralized, more tourist friendly option

It's a very nice park, but it's more like a half hour (or more) away from the end of either the Blue or Yellow METRO lines. Good location for visiting Mount Vernon, but it's not as well-located for downtown DC as the other options discussed in this thread.

Check out Pohick Bay in Virginia. It is a ten minute drive to the last metro stop on the blue line. It has beautiful views, very well priced and has electric and water hookups. It is either a state or regional park and sports some pretty impressive views. We stayed there for a week during police week in DC. Although it is 20 minute metro rail ride into DC, being outside of the hustle and bustle was well worth it in the evening.

The Lake Fairfax bathouse was new a few years ago. The METRO station is only a couple miles away & has parking.

We stayed at Cherry Hill last year and it was perfect. Enough so we are making the 8 hour trip again this year for another week. We drove to the Greenline station everyday which was more convenient and cheaper. It was a easy 5 minute drive. From there the subway made travel all over DC very easy. The staff at Cherryhill was very helpful.

Cherry Hill caters to RV'ers in town to tour D.C. like no other RV park in the area. They thrive on the D.C. tourist and are very good at knowing and accommodating their needs.
