Camping in Washington, Oregon, Northern California

Going out that way for the summer. Can anyone suggest good camping spots on the coast, or in national forests at reasonable prices? Thanks

Well, mock, coming from Calif, I found that Wash state parks are sure a lot nicer than many in Calif, so I am happy to pay extra. I can't wait to get back up north.

The size of your rig will matter regarding many of the national parks and forests in WA & OR. I also use the above link provided for forest camping and it is very useful. WA state parks are horribly overpriced and not as nice as those in Oregon so I can't recommend them.

Olympic National Park should fill up your time available but don't come to the rain forest and complain if it rains.

If you are ok without hookups, there is almost an infinite number of great campgrounds in the national forests -- the national parks tend to be booked up, though.

If you have a few minutes, browse through our blog entries (see link below) for a lot of photos of campgrounds and boondocking in the Far West.

We have camped frequently in all three states, we paid anywhere from $28 to $35 in most places for full hook up. The Petaluma KOA was the most expensive at $67, it was late and we were too tired to look further.
We have yet to be disappointed in any of the camp sites. The state parks are fabulous especially along the coast, Beverley Beach OR is our favorite.

One thing, you better start finding where you want to stay.

Many Public campgrounds will already be booked up for this summer, especially those on the coast and other popular areas.
You might find a private coastal campground with sites still available for this summer.
But you'll have to lucky to find any coastal public campgrounds with any available sites, for more than 1 night.

Not sure what "reasonable price" means to you.
California State Parks` normal price for a basic no-hookups campsite is $35. You get a fire ring and picnic bench with the site.,)

So much depends on what you like to do. If you want to hike a bit to the beach, there are so many beautiful parks in Oregon and Washington. But if you want to look at the scenery instead of your neighbors in the park, you will likely find yourself in a private part at quite the fee.

South Beach in Newport Oregon is one of our favorites, we were there 3 weeks ago and the part was almost full of the serviced camp grounds.

Start here for Oregon...they have a first rate State Park system. Tons of prime locations and variety. As you can see, lots along the fabulous Oregon Coast.

Summer can be tough on the coast..it's a popular destination. Suggest reservations.

Not enough information!! Pick some coast cities that interest you, what kind and size of any RV. i.e national forest parks tend to have smaller RV sites and limitations. Is price of RV park a top priority?????

Reasonable prices? A value judgment different to all of us. These suggestions may be expensive to some, but I personally feel they deliver an excellent resort or location. Strictly personal experience here:
Rest-A-While on the Olympic Peninsular highway 101, fantastic scenery. Petaluma KOA, excellent location to San Francisco, gem of a KOA. Benbow Resort KOA in Garberville, excellent location for the Redwoods, resort setting.
