We worked at Camp Hatteras last summer. Great place to stay. All paved with concrete pads for your rig. Yes, it was hit by a hurricane last July 4th weekend, but we had it cleaned up and reopened 2 days after we were allowed back on the island. (Mandatory evac)

We stayed on the sound side since you could actually see water and sunsets were remarkable over the Pamlico Sound. And yes, golf carts are allowed. Usually quieter on sound side to since everyone want to be on the ocean side...

Just stayed at Camp Hatteras on the sound side last August. I liked it and will likely stay there on our next trip as well. We biked through the KOA and ocean waves and either would be nice as well but then again I preferred the public campground in Frisco over all of them.

Thanks for replies. I am not to concerned with cell or WiFi as this is my vacation.I'm hoping to not have to use either. The heads up is apprecited. I think I'm sold for Camp Hatteras on the Sound Side.

Does anyone know if personal golf carts are permitted at Camp Hatteras?

TIA

We like Ocean Waves but good luck getting reservation. The KOA is pretty good and Camp Hatteras is nice too. I don't think you'll be upset with any of them

X2 for Ocean Waves... We were there this past August. Book early as they fill up pretty quick for prime weeks.

Cell service on the OBX is strong from Ocracoke to Corolla. Down on the waters edge can be tough, but most everywhere we had great cellular and data.

We stayed at Ocean Waves Campground, very near to the KOA. It's a small, family run campground that has great access to the beach and has much better rates than KOA. The bath house was clean. If you don't need all the bells and whistles at the KOA, this is a good alternative. It has a small store and a small pool. We enjoyed our stay here in a travel trailer.

You won't have a problem with Camp Hatteras wifi or Verizon cell service...While the KOA was redone, Camp Hatteras was also repaired and we stay sound side when we go there...the waterfront sites can get a bit windy so watch your awnings....We usually go sometime in May just before the rates go sky high......

We stayed at the KOA for a few days in May and we really liked it. There are no really water-front sites; the sites that back up to the ocean have a dune between the site and the ocean. The CG is mostly new having been rebuilt after a hurricane.

The only minus I can think of was the WiFi and cell service. I'm on Sprint and we had no signal on the phone or the hotspot. CG WiFi was spotty at the ocean side sites and we had to go to the cafe to get a connection. There's a huge microwave tower just north of the campground and it was interfering with the WiFi in the CG.

Camp Hatteras has 2 areas, one ocean side, one sound side. The sound side has waterfront sites. I think if we do Hatteras again, we'd try Camp Hatteras sound side for the sunsets.

We stayed at Camp Hatteras and liked it. We did check out the KOA. The KOA sites seemed tighter and smaller.
We liked Camp Hatteras. Great beach and a nice pool that we jumped in often because of the humidity. I think, however, it was trashed in a hurricane...don't know what it looks like now but heard it was completely rebuilt.
Have a good trip.
