Delaware Seashore State Park

Am planning on going to Delaware Seashore State Park next year in July. The window to make reservations is now open for the dates we want. Just one question- of those who have been there which side do you like best? I see the North side is newly opened this year. Which side is closer to the beach? There are sites available on both the South and North side in the first row by the water, but am confused to which side we should pick. Thanks for your input.

We stayed on the south side the week leading up to July 4th and enjoyed being able to walk right to beach several times.

We only had two issues:

1) One day we had a bad storm and the area of the campground was under about 6" water for a day or so.
2) We repeatedly seemed to have issues with power, specifically with the A/C running. It's as if the demand was too much for the CG's supply. Several times our TT internal circuit breakers were tripped with the A/C on and anyone running a hairdryer or microwave. I've never had that issue previously. Many times the A/C seemed to slow down as if there was a brownout. And one night the whole power grid went down for a few seconds. Unfortunately it was at night and my daughter was in the bathhouse at the time, so that was kind of scary.

We drove past the north CG and it looked nice. If you are doing any kind of boating the marina is also right there on the north side just past the CG. The cottages for rent are also on the north side.

I did notice that some of the pavement on the roads in the south side CG are in pretty bad shape. There are many areas where the pavement joints are deteriorated and pavement has settled where utility trenches have been dug over the years. There was one really bad patch near our site where the CG had placed a traffic cone so no one drove into a big hole. I'm surprised they didn't address these problems when they fixed up other parts of the park after the adjacent Route 1 bridge construction project was completed.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I decided to book site 437 on the North side. Just 1 site from the water. Looking forward to a wonderful time. !!

Wow, popular campground! We are going the first week in August. I've been going to Rehoboth/Bethany my entire life, never camped there before. I guess the absolute lack of trees and shade scared me off before. We are staying at the north side this year.

The other responses kind of confirm my "fears". All of the beach amenities are on the SOUTH side and there isn't a super easy way to get there with a family. Oh well, still looking forward to a great week at the beach. Already planning on getting at least a couple Nicobolis, some Thrashers fries, some pizza from Louies and some Fishers caramel corn!

Here are the main differences:

The South side has pull through sites, camp store, and shuttle station to Rehoboth Beach.
The North side has dog friendly beach, brand new back in sites, and Marina restaurant.

You can walk across bridge to both sides. If you have a dog, North Side is better for the dog friendly beach.

stayed there last week and loved it. I had site 475 and my brother and his wife had 472. The north side just opened this year, all new. everything and everyone was great. Will be going back again later in the year (fall) and do some fishing. will try and get a site where I can see the water through the large picture window on the tail end of the trailer. Last year I stayed on the south side, sites are a little smaller, but mostly the same. I think your wise to reserve as soon as you can, the sites that time of year go quick.

enjoy,

We were there about a week ago. We stayed in the south side. It was better than we expected. The South has a beach with restroom & change room and a walkway under the bridge to get to it. The beach is not too bad. We did not look too hard at the north side but it looked the same just with new pavement.
