Heading back up the Or. coast in 2nd half of Sept. and want to spend about a week in one CG. What would be a good area to stay in with maybe more things to see and do? Will be spending a day or two around Seaside and am thinking farther to the south. Pacific City? North Bend? Florence?

Thanks for all the great suggestions! Much appreciated. It looks like we will be staying at South Beach just south of Newport.

We have a membership in Thousand Trails and can stay there for free (excepting the annual fee). We also have a membership in KM Resorts and could stay at their Neskowin CG near Pacific City but we stayed there once and the CG is rather boring.

Seems like there's lots to see and do in and around Newport and as mentioned, many attractions aren't that far away. We could even go into Corvalis and see what there is to see. Have only ever blasted right through it on the I5.

Someone mentioned a casino and it looks like the closest is Chinook Winds in Lincoln city?

I like Forence and the Forest Service camp grounds.
If you have an INTERAGENCY RECREATION pass then they are only $10 a night and the pass allows you access to many of the site seeing areas along the coast. It cost $80, but quickly pays for itself if you are going to be stopping at national parks, national monuments and forest service areas that have fees.
The sand rail ride on the dunes is a must to get your adrenaline flowing.
Spice restaurant in old Florence has some of the best food on the coast!

Harris Beach St Park is closed from Sept 8th 2015 to May 25th 2016 for repaving.

Great park though. Some of the prettiest beaches on the Oregon coast are in the southern section.

Not sure what you want for hookups and what your interests are of course. We have been there several times and, God willing, going back next year. We love walking the beach.

We like Cannon Beach and that area best of all. Love Ecola S P with Indian Beach. But you say you will be in Seaside so moving south. We love Newport area and stay at the Marina there - always interesting right there at the park with the marina! And sea lions in town. Great aquarium if you are into that.

Winchester Bay had a fantastic rv park but not much to do in that area unless you are in dune buggies.

And we really like Bandon area. Nice town and great beach walking and things to do. And, of course, golf --- if you play and have lotsa bucks. I don't play golf anymore.

Old Town Florence is neat.

Great lighthouses to see all along there - Florence, Bandon, etc.

We hope to be on the Coast about 5-6 weeks next summer.

Enjoy.

Crabbing has been safe all summer. The recommendation is not to eat the viscera. The only closures have been for razor clams and mussels.Check this link

A lot of Newport here but no mention of the government run Port of Newport Park at the south end of the Bridge next to Rogue Brewery

A bit of a parking lot but it has full hookups and location

is an up-to-date Good Sam rated park with discount available. All sites offer full hookups and are paved with pull-thru, back-in, and pull-in options. Good sam summer rate is $39

I can't think of anywhere we wouldn't be happy to stay for a week. Newport is great for a base camp, you can easily visit the rest of the coast north or south in a day. Don't miss the dunes at Florence, the buggy ride is a hoot.

We really liked Sea Perch RV Resort it's right ON the beach, if you can get a site over looking the beach it's even better.

As far as Oregon State Parks Honeyman South Florence & Beverly Beach just north of Newport are a couple of our personal and frequent favorites.

I gave you a couple of ideas for St. Pks. to stay at, now here is some things to do in different places. There are several private parks where you can stay, if you want ocean views, you pretty much have to use private.

Things to do on the Coast(North of Winchester Bay);

All the state parks and picnic area/day use areas for beach combing

Winchester Bay for RV Park and County campgrounds, dunes

Florence for the jetties and the dunes, camping

Old Town Florence for Moโ€™s & BJโ€™s(ice cream), shopping and camping

Sea Lion Caves for the view of Heceta Head Light and caves, day use

Cape Perpetua/Devils Churn

Yachats for shopping and views, beach combing, day use, kiting

Waldport for crabbing, rent a ring and crab for free, rental store will cook and clean your catch

Bay Shore for beach combing, kiting

Newport for the Aquarium, Old Town, shopping and the Brewery, kiting

Depot Bay for the Sea Hag's fish and chowder

Lincoln City for the Factory Stores and Glass studios south side of town, blow your own glass float.

Otis for the Cafรฉ, best breakfast on coast that is cooked by someone else

Tillimook for the Cheese factory and ice cream

Beachside State Recreation Area is good, also. Just south of Newport and north of Yachats. I don't know how booked they are for that time period, though. We wanted a specific site, and it took weeks of trying before we were able to make our reservation. Every time a new booking window would open, we were on the computer with finger poised over the key. Finally got the space, but not until Sept 21.

The news this morning said that the red tide is particularly bad this year. Hopefully by the time we get there, it will be safe to go crabbing.
