Hocking Hills SP

Looking to head to Hocking Hills SP the 21 or 22 of June and it looks like sites, according to RA (Reserve Amercia), are filling up fast. Any insights to this park? Should we make a stab and make a blind reservation, as never been there before? What's a level site, near the shower house, shaded, convenient to the fire ring, privacy, etc. Or should we wait till we get there and try our luck. After all, we're not sure when we will get there. We make a reservation and we'll be there, but would it be worth leaving a park we enjoy? A "B camper" needing electricity and spending a couple of days before heading off to the NDOG.
Thanks to all.

That campground is up and down from one end to the other (rolling hills). There is more than 100-feet of elevation change in that park. Individual sites are the best they can be but will have some grade to them; but be prepared to put some boards under the wheels on one side or the other.

I was hiking there last weekend and stopped in the office to see how far along they are with their upgrades. They are putting in like 50 FHU sites from site number 24 to 70 so that entire loop has been blocked off and you cant reserve them. They are hoping that they will be open for memorial day. Hope it helps

What sites are not dog friendly? I've camped there for 30+ years and I don't believe I've ever seen that. I know some of the trails that are designated as nature preserves do not allow dogs on them.

We camp a bit south of Hocking Hills just off 33 outside of Nelsonville at Happy Valley campground. Still an easy drive to all the sights, and you are closer to a bison burger at Rocky's Boots cafe. We like to time our stay with music at Stuart's Opera House.

The park is popular and does fill up fast. The sites on the side loops are nicer and larger than the ones on the main drive. The shower houses are on the main drive with the less desirable sites. Most all sites have shade and are relatively level. Privacy is about the same for all. All sites will have someone next to you but no one behind you with the exception of the walk up sites that you cannot reserve. Sites near the pool you will hear the noise of the waste-water treatment plant.

If you cannot get reservations the KOA down the road is not a bad alternative.

we were there last fall- it is an awesome park. they have non-reservable sites- first come - first to get, you can pay for how many days you will be there or pay by noon (I think, each day). we got there on a Wednesday and easily got a site, not sure how fast the park fills up when you are going- call the park and ask. we had site 14 or 15 and it was level. If I knew when I was going to be there I would make a reservation. JMHO
