We will soon be leaving Rockport, TX to drive to Tucson. We are being warned about poor road conditions on I10. We could also take US90 but it is slower. Anyone done that trip recently and can update us on road conditions?

Drove San Diego to Abilene TX two weeks ago

I-8 - fine - a bit rough in western Arizona but not bad
I-10 - little problems - as mentioned near Benson not great - but not horrible
I-20 - good

Took I-10 through El Paso at about 1 pm - road is fine. Construction but no slowdowns or bad rough spots. Some folks might not like the construction zones with no shoulders. Having driven the DFW freeways for 30+ years it doesn't bother me.

Personally though - I always take US-90 from San Antonio-Van Horn. For one thing - I find the grades easier and better fuel mileage. For another - I find that once you get onto I-10 past El Paso - the motorist are more intolerant of my 55 mph pace when they are trying to run 85-90 mph in the 80 mph zones.

Same with us. Arrived in Tucson just this past Monday having traveled in on I-10 across Texas and New Mexico. The road was fine. But the headwinds we ran into across west Texas and New Mexico were certainly challenging. A wind advisory with gusts up to 60 mph caused us to lay up for a day in Van Horn. Roads were fine, though, for the most part, and nothing that would make me look for an alternative route.

I10 is a good road all the way except thu a few SouthEastern Town. The section Benson is always work in progress as that section is built on unstable river soil and is always moving and settling. The heavy truck traffic doesn't help either. No potholes, just up & down dips. I always slow down for that section.

Either way is good driving. I-10 isn't any worse than other roads in this country. ๐Ÿ™‚

The bad part if I-10 is in Louisiana. But from Rockport, I'd go FM 44 to 83 to Uuvalde and take US 90 across. A few towns, but easy, pleasant drive.

Left Florida here last spring and travelled I-10 and found it better than anything you have up there in Mass.
Have Fiver will travel with little or no notice at all. I do need to stop at rest areas now and then:)
