Is there anything other than Disney to do in Orlando that won't break the bank. DW and I will be in Orlando for a convention in early April. We tought we would stay a few extra days for a mini-vacation. We've done the Disney thing and really don't care to spend that kind of money. We need your help.

We made a trip out to Weekie Wachie (fell into disrepair and now run by state) on our last visit... cruised out to the gulf coast and hung out at Pine Island and then dinner at Bayport Inn Seafood....typical "Old Florida"... be sure to take pontoon boat tour to see manatees...

At the bottom of this link is a list of places most of them cheap, even free where you can observe manatees

Florida at its best and most within a reasonable drive from Orlando.

If you head towards Cape Canaveral there are two hidden jewels of museums. One is the War bird Air Museum near the Titusville airport and the second is the police museum near KSC. Great campground at Port Canaveral also.

Head for the swamps and find out that IT IS actually gator world. They rule their areas.
I don't think you could get bored while not spending a bundle since there are so many different choices, But do remember that tourism is what drives this area and mostly all of Florida.

Down town Disney is nice to walk around. You can spend nothing or just have lunch at the rainforest cafe or planet Hollywood. Many other small attractions as well as cirque du solei if interested. ( that is expensive though)

Take a drive down international drive, Everything you can think if in a 7 mile road.

Depends on what you like to do. Gator World is surprisingly nice and not too expensive. A few miles south is Cyprus Gardens, one of FLA's original attractions, and again not Orlando prices.

Sorry, Cypress Gardens closed a few years ago. The property is now "Lego Land."

If you like airplane museum one of the best is Fantasy of Flight right off I-4 at exit 44. This is 20 west of Disney World. It won't break the bank to go there.

Drive over to Cape Canaveral - not all that far - and do the NASA thing - a bit spendy, but not as much as Disney or Universal Studios, and very well worth it. The north end of the Canaveral reservation is a national seashore and sanctuary, and very nice, especially if the birds haven't all headed north yet.

Just our 2 cents worth.
