We are heading out there tomorrow and staying at the Jekyll island campground for the long week end. I have read there are some light houses and such around. Any suggestions on the best places to see such landmarks and some other hot spots? Thanks

You can head up the road to Darien and see the old fort and plantation. Also B&J's restaurant in Darien for some of the best shrimp you ever had. Its a local hang out. For the best steaks, The Red Barn on ST. Simons is hard to beat.

Thanks all for the advice. I will hit the visitors center. We always bring our bikes (hopefully it will not be TOO hot)The kids will tire first, but a little water and they should be fine.

Here is the jekyll island campground for the question above.

The lighthouse is in the village on St. Simons Island, which is only a few minutes away from Jekyll. We love walking around the village, pier and lighthouse and think the best restaurants are on St Simons. If you enjoy history, I recommend visiting Fort Frederica on St. Simons...the huge live oaks draped in spanish moss are majestic. If you stop at the visitor's center on the way to the island, they'll give you a map so you can see what all is there. On Jekyll, one of our favorite things to do is walk or bicycle through the Historic District....so beautiful and full of interesting history. Also enjoy going to Clam Creek, Pier and Driftwood Beach, which is right across from the campground. We almost always see horses on the beach. If you have bikes, take them...Jekyll Island is excellent for riding bikes. Jennifer

Excellent advice. Jekyll is an outstanding autumn destination. Do bookmark a hurricane track site as this is prime hurricane season. Enjoy your trip.

There's a nice lighthouse on St. Simon's Island just north on Rt17. We paid for a trip to the top and a tour of the old Coast Guard Station.

Rumor has it there's some good eats at the roundabout near the St. Simon's airport. Can't remember the name of it but it's next to a workout gym.
Time to camp.
