We have been to Sturgis a couple of times and now it is time to head east. We have enjoyed the energy of the Sturgis Rally, but prefer to stay close, but at a quiet campground that is close to good riding.
Since we have never been there...
Any suggestions as to where to stay and what to do?
Any suggestions of places/things to avoid?
Thanks!

Meredith Woods has private wooded sites. We were there this part April. Nice indoor pool and hot tub. You can also use the facilities and lake at ClearWater Campground across the street.
I live in the Lakes Region and used to work in the Weirs and have never heard of Pine Hollow CG, if that tells you anything... From their website it looks like it caters to parking for some of the bigger, more crowded events in the area in the summer... ST

Friends of mine own campers in pine hollow campground in Laconia. They are trying to get me a site for bike week but I am a little Leary. I have a 41' diesel pusher and I will be towing a 20' enclosed trailer. This campground only has 30 amp service so not exactly big rig friendly. Has anyone ever stayed here?
We like to stay at Davidson's country campground, Merrideth woods is a great rv park also. I've never camped up there during bike week, we stay on the boat instead then just walk into the weirs area. As far as what to do, depends on your interest, there's so great riding in the area. I would suggest riding up the Kancamagous highway and Mt Washington auto road. The riding in the lakes region can be crazy that week. Where ever you stay when in Laconia during bike week "DO NOT HAVE ANY OPEN ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE IN PUBLIC" it cost me a $100.a peace on the dead end road the my mother lives on, that I grew up on. There's only three houses on the road and we were walking to one of the other houses when a plain white van pulled up and wrote us tickets. just a little something to keep in mind. I hope you enjoy yourself.I'll be happy to help with questions. Shawn
We have alternated between Sturgis one year and Laconia the next... did that for many years. In Laconia we have always stayed at GunStock Good ride into Weirs Beach on pretty quiet roads. RV sites were plenty big enough to handle our 37ft MH towing a 20 ft trailer .

Chocorua Campground on rt 16 towards Conway is on Moore's Pond (small lake). Then you can do the 26 mile Kancamangus Highway on White Mountain National Forest - one of the favorite trips for motorcyclists - there's a loop version that goes further north too.
Also check out Mt. Washington Auto Road - they set aside one day for just motorcycles during that time frame. VFW and other orgs put on Poker Runs up there too for fund raisers
I'll throw in Danforth Bay in Ossipee. It's about 1/2 way between Meredith and North Conway, about 25 min from The Weirs. You better book something yesterday! Everything books out sometimes years in advance.
Try Meredith Woods in Meredith, NH and Ellacoya SP in Guilford. Another good choice for riding is the Saco River CG in North Conway. The rides up there are fantastic.
