Lancaster Pa

Any suggestions for a campground for a few nights this week in the Lancaster area? Was originally looking the Passport America campgrounds, but reviews do not seem that good. We just need a spot to hook up while we explore the area; just the wife and I, so do not need all the activities, etc.

Started with a night in the Mohegan Sun Casino parking lot in Wilkes-Barre, Pa after the Alan Jackson concert.Then a night stop over at Cabela's in Hamburg, Pa, where another RVer took a pic of a bear roaming the parking lot the night before. From there we spent a few nights at Country Acres in Lancaster, which I highly recommend, and then off to Delaware Seashore State Park in Rehoboth Beach for a few days. Back home now and thinking about where to go next. It's a shame that work has to always get in the way though.

We have stayed here many times,and believe there is no more scenic or quiet CG in the area. We do obey the rules, and have camped here with two quiet dogs, a cat, and even once with a goldfish (all at the same time) with no problems. If we travel back to the area again we will definitely stay here!

Actually we looked into staying at the koa again this year. We're bringing my parents with us, but our small trailer isn't big enough for all of us to be comfortable. I inquired about a cabin for them. Granted it was not during camping season when I inquired, but the response from the koa was that my parents would have to make the reservation after they open for the season and pay with their own credit card. This was dispite my original explanation that the trip was a gift to my parents.

When I called Beacon Hill, they were very accommodating. They gave us a site near the park model we reserved for my parents, and had no problem with me making both reservations on my card.

Last year when we stayed at the koa, they charged us $12 to bring my parents onto the site for less than an hour (it was less than an hour before guests had to leave). This happened twice, so it cost me $24 to have my parents sit with us for a cup of coffee two days. It's not like it's a resort and they were using amenities.

These are the type of things that particular koa owner pulls. Is it in the rules? Yeah, but really, charging $12 to bring a couple of guests onto the site for a cup of coffee? They could have cut us a little break.

Would I return there? Perhaps, as it is in a nice location. It would be a lot more pleasant, though, with nicer owners.

My goto place is Flory's camping.
It is quiet and right in the middle of Amish country. Right down the street from Bird-in-Hand. Been staying there for years and if you are looking for just a nice level site with good wifi this is the place we call home.

Before I get hammered.. let me state the following.
They do have some long term construction guys in 5th wheels... They are quiet and never around much. And like I said they have good level sites to park your rig, very clean rest rooms, great wifi, a great place to explore the area.

Amish farm the land on two sides of me. Please explain the "attractions", I just don't get it. Is it the shows, outlet malls, restaurants, odors or what?

We live about two hours from Lancaster, so when we want to get away for a few days, Lancaster is our go to place. We've tried a lot of the area campgrounds.

Our favorite: Old Mill Stream. Nothing fancy, but clean and close to a lot of the area attractions. We love the sites-large enough and shaded. A great place to kick back.

Next favorite-Beacon Hill. Clean and very friendly owners. We love the family farm that is across the street. There is also an Amish making hat "factory" at the end of the road, so you get to see a lot of Amish driving by. If you stay here, get a site by the road, so you can watch. This road is a dead end, so no other traffic. Beacon Hill is also close to the area attractions.

Lancaster attractions are spread out, and these two campgrounds are about twenty minutes from one another.

Beacon Hill worked for us. Occasionally the wind would remind us there is a farm across the road that raises cows. Sites are a bit close together, it's a pretty small property, but it was quiet and right in the midst of Amish country.

My vote is for Country Acres close to the action. But not in the action.
